It is time we had better line art options in Blender. I use the Malt render engine because it is great, especially the line art. But it isn't always viable to use. So I wanted to see if the Compositor can handle Malt style line art now since recent updates let us do more with passes and even AOVs in the viewport. This is only a proof of concept with many issues and missing components, but the answer seems to be yes! Unlike the regular Filter based lines, these use a two step process: detect a line mask, and then expand it. This gives a lot more control. And with AOVs, we can control the parameters with data from the Material or Attributes, like I use in my Malt setups. I am also testing out using the new Convolve node for this. For big kernels it should be more efficient. But for typical thickness, spamming Translate nodes is probably better. If I don't run into problems, I'll see about turning this into an addon. I assume some nice line options are planned for the NPR features that are in development, but I'm not sure how long until those will be ready.

@OmarEmaraDev If you have a moment, can you explain n-sphere in the Voronoi texture? I read what you wrote about it in the documentation but I didn't understand it. I'm trying to make a texture that distributes shapes randomly across the surface.

@3pointedit @Trinumedia EEVEE supports AOV passes, so you can just create a UV AOV pass and access that from the compositor. Just make sure to add 1 to the Z component because that's what the compositor expects.

@Trinumedia @Laserschwert_ Actually the banding is due to limited precision. You need to change the precision to Full in the node tree options to avoid it. This option is in 4.1 only, hence why I only enabled the pass in 4.1. This Full thing will happen automatically in the future. devtalk.blender.org/t/real-time-co…

@Laserschwert_ Since the display is RGB 255 when it comes to values, and the Zdepth a float to scene/camera clip depth essentially, when it's normalized to the display, the float steps are clamped to pixel luminance steps, which are a fraction of the full float - thus stepping the values.. ?

@andrewpprice It is already in master behind an experimental flag. It will move out of experimental in 3.5 and will be officially part of the 3.5 release. However, MacOS will not be supported and there are a number of limitation as shown in developer.blender.org/T99210.

Hi @OmarEmaraDev I'm trying Image+Blur(Multiply) using a Mix RGB with image+Blur(Screen). I get the red noise for "eevee bloom Emission materials"[right image]. It looks like a clamping issue, but "clamping" in the blur node does nothing.

@danielpartzsch It will be release as part of 3.5. It should be safe to use in production, taking into account its limitations and compatibility against the existing compositor, which will be documented.
