1971. Duel. Twilight Zone writer Richard Matheson adapts his own short story into a script, partly based on a nightmarish experience he had in the real world, rather than the fifth dimension. Young director Steven Spielberg, fresh from Columbo, turns it into a sublime TV movie.

@Doria_joe @amazingmap A PDP-8e with 2K of memory for me in 1976. Storage on paper tape too. I still have a program from then on such tape today.

@RodneyMarshall1 This is my No1. From the very start with the "type-writery" soundtrack and unusual camera angles, this was something different to what we had seen before with crime drama.

1970s Classic Columbo. A Top Ten. No 2. Murder by the Book. Bochco + Spielberg; Falk + Cassidy. Ken Franklin may know how to market murder, but Columbo chases him from the city to the lakes & back to the city before throwing the literal book at him. What a way to open Season 1!

1970s Classic Columbo. A Top Ten. No 10. An Exercise in Fatality. The Lieutenant takes on health and fitness fanatic Milo Janus (Robert Conrad). Janus can outrun the detective on a beach, but carrot juice and vitamin pills won't prevent Milo from being tied up in knots.
