Don’t recall any “urgency” from Philly Mag in reopening #phled schools during COVID. Don’t hear any urgency coming from them in terms of how you remedy the damage caused. Don’t hear any urgency of a review to ensure the same mistakes are never repeated.

*except if we want to keep schools (holla @rweingarten & Philly leadership) in which case we dramatize & spin up fear, ignore data, slow walk reopening by pretending that’s what is “best” (even though rich kids were in school)…and screw over another generation of poor kids.

The @nytimes needs to be put out of its misery. You supported policies that damaged disadvantaged kids w/o any real benefit. You weren’t liberal & supported regressive policies touted by progressives.
Reflect, write opinions based on what you should’ve done if you were liberal.

@OpenSchoolsPHL @PHLschoolboard @watlington_sr There is clearly a parent here, with multiple burners, that thinks schools are not also work places, and that teachers are not human beings. I am so happy they can tweet all day, but come up with no other solution than Unions are bad.

There are clearly a group of people who feel schools must be closed for any reason.
@PHLschoolboard @watlington_sr - maybe grades shouldn’t close 7 days before school ends, it’s true there is ~0 teaching — no effort being made to reach kids who are struggling.

@nolpost @juliblingblong There have been over 20 shooting deaths of school aged kids this year alone. Reality is there is risk everywhere.
Deciding that going to school is somehow the only unacceptable risk has caused what could be a lifetime of damages in learning loss to a generation of students.

@alexanderrusso Maybe we shouldn't have just thrown away their education (time IN school) so easily or at least without heavy debate? Maybe time during developmental years can't easily be made up within a system that was already struggling? Maybe just throwing money at the problem isn't enough?

I don't think I have ever seen a crowd like this for a mayoral candidate. But this is what happens when you have a candidate like @HelenGymPHL who will fight for working-class families & defend our rights. If you're in Philadelphia, vote for Helen. She is THE candidate.

Spend two years telling kids & families schools aren’t safe enough( still happening!) that remote ed was good enough…
Add in terrible educational quality (which is getting worse)
Kids won’t go to school. Families who can leave will. Not a surprise at all.

true story: a source who knows both ed & RR’s campaign told me about three weeks ago that RR’s ed plan was still very much in development, even as RR was answering questions in ed forums. That report matched
my own impression from forums: ed policy is very new territory for RR

I want to be clear that I personally think Rebecca isn’t ill intended. But it’s clear she doesn’t understand it When people ask why I am a Helen person I say bc schools and youth issues in general are my main issues of concern. I know she understands the danger of these issues.
