From a ‘Justice for the victim’ angle, there usually isn’t much to achieve in ‘suing them for all they’re worth’. From the observable trend on the matter, most of these banger boys are usually impecunious guys seeking a fast payday. Per our current situation with our judicial system in general, civil matters are usually an endless cycle of delays, adjournments and the like. What I’d recommend is that we have a streamlined and rail guarded set of laws and procedures to prevent the abuse and weaponization of the process. Alternatively, let’s have the option of fines inserted into the penalties for defamation in the Criminal Code, as we have in the Penal Code. The Cybercrimes Act covers this quite well too. So maybe charges should be brought solely under the Act, at least to have the option of fines always open to the defendant. Do the time, or pay the fine. Also why can’t we all just respect ourselves and not UNDULY and maliciously poke sleeping bears? Crazy!

@BlehisBack It’s common sense that it shouldn’t be criminalized. It’s a civil matter. Take them to court, sue them for all their worth. Anything other than that is just ridiculous.

I have mixed feelings about criminalizing defamation. On one hand, it serves defamers right. On the other, it feels unfair, like it should strictly be a civil suit. But as long as it’s still the law, people are within their rights to pursue either route through due process.
