Big Tim Miller fan, but disagree slightly with his take on the Piker stuff. Put me in the "I'll take winning" camp -- and that the surest way to lose is to cozy up to nihilistic extremists who bully those who disagree with them (e.g., telling a listener to "suck my d*ck" for merely saying October 7th was an atrocity) and will abandon the party if they don't get their preferred candidates. Tim did a good job challenging Piker but many have not. I don't think this needs to be the biggest issue in the world, but it's a symptom of some important mainstream Dems believing that tolerating extremism is a path to victory. I believe the coalition can have people with any range of views on the Gaza war, Israel, or any number of issue. But Piker has crossed so many lines so often that I can't see why he's such a prominent and welcome voice in the mainstream of the party.

Congressional Dems' numbers with Dems are atrociously awful. (Even worse among all voters.) Most Dems (55%) think their party has the wrong priorities! Unlike 2006 or 2018, Dem leaders have a negative net approval with Dems! Schumer is on thin ice to hold his job next year.

I am appalled by today’s verdict against Ben Jamal and Chris Nineham. In January 2025, we held an entirely peaceful demonstration in support of Palestinian people. At all times, they — and we — followed all police instructions. We ended the demonstration by laying down flowers at their feet to mourn the deaths of Palestinian children. Today’s verdict is a dark day for civil liberties in this country — and is a disgraceful assault on the right to protest. My solidarity is with Ben, Chris and all those who have stood up for our common humanity in the face of genocide. This case is part of a wider attempt to intimidate the Palestinian solidarity movement into silence. They will never succeed.
