Oh yeah, it’s flat out hideous from an architectural standpoint. I will never be anywhere near that monstrosity of a building. The pattern on the top is a lattice made from letters of an Obama speech, used as architectural ornament. It comes from his 2015 “You Are America” address at the 50th anniversary of the Selma‑to‑Montgomery marches. Visitors inside the tower will look out through the carved lettering as windows, so it works both as text and as a screen for light. The overall tower form is described by the designers and the Obama Foundation as hands coming together to hold a lantern of light, meant to symbolize unity, connection, and hope.
