it actually makes me feel insane that my kid has THREE sets of grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, all within an hour radius and i have access to none of them. people DREAM of having this much support and i have it and simply cannot utilize it.

i actually think this comment really highlights that this IS a cultural disconnect. in the US people are more entrepreneurial and more willing to take risks. for better or for worse, the mindset is that if you work harder and work better, you will be more successful, and the system is set up to let the risk takers make big money. European countries have stronger social safety nets, and working harder often doesn’t benefit you anything, and if you try to be entrepreneurial you get punished with layers of bureaucracy and excessive taxes. there are bartenders pulling in thousands in tips a night. a lot of people genuinely like the system as it is.

@potatoslav Tipping is not a wage. This is transferring the entrepreneurial risk onto the employee. It is a sign of a deeply flawed and unjust system. Yes, as tourists we should pay the tipp, because it is not the waiters fault. But when confronted with this bullshit expect being called out.

I failed to make much of this grove, lots more hours of work needed. But it lets in more light now, and blooms nicely. Maybe two more years and it will be a very pretty spot.

The reason men don't think women are funny is because when we are young and beautiful, they are too busy staring at our boobs to notice we are funny, and then when we hit the wall they don't notice us at all. My husband, who is stuck with me, acknowledges that me being funny is somewhat of a consolation for the decline in boobs.

yeah i also like having live audio/video and find it useful. the point of this tweet is that a lot of parents have become obsessive in ways that don’t matter. there’s no reason you can’t walk 30 seconds down the road, especially with a baby monitor. it’s less risky than hopping in the shower while your baby sleeps.

the vast majority of babies ever born were raised by parents who would consider live video monitoring of a sleeping baby so excessive they’d be confused by the concept.
having a baby is hard in a bunch of ways, but a whole lot of parents are making it much harder than it needs to be. they’re doing their best to shame everyone else into having a harder time than necessary too.
