Today marks the start of World #AMR Awareness Week. #AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) is not a future problem. It is a present crisis, causing more than one million deaths every year and undermining decades of medical progress. With the right policies, we can protect our people and our health systems. @WHO calls on all countries to fully implement and fund their National Action Plans, strengthen #OneHealth systems, and keep antibiotics and life-saving medicines working for everyone. Let's act now. Protect our present. Secure our future.

SMC has emerged as a primary intervention in #malaria control, protecting over 53 million children in 2023, mainly in West Africa's Sahel region. But due to rising funding cuts and growing antimalarial drug resistance, these gains are at risk. Let's stay committed to fighting malaria to the end for a malaria-free future.

According to the latest AU Malaria Progress Report, an estimated 74 million people were displaced in 2023, either as refugees or internally displaced due to conflict and disaster. Displacement, disrupted health services, and broken supply chains fuel increases in #malaria cases and deaths, while driving up delivery and implementation costs, further widening funding gaps. This #WorldHumanitarianDay, we are reminded that humanitarian crises are also health crises. As the world is called to #ActForHumanity, we must prioritise displaced populations across borders, strengthen planning, and ensure no one is left behind, both in the fight against malaria & in access to essential #health services.
