Small, consistent actions at community level can shift how systems respond. When information is accessible, when communities are engaged, and when young people step into these spaces with evidence accountability starts to take shape.
This group represents that collective effort. Not perfect, not finished but moving in the right direction.
At this review meeting, we reflected on the past years what we’ve done, what has worked, and where the gaps still exist. From school feeding advocacy to the School Notice Board Initiative, we looked at how our work has contributed to improving transparency, community engagement, and accountability in education.
We also focused on what comes next how to strengthen citizen monitoring, deepen engagement with decision-makers, and make better use of data like EMIS and school budgets to influence change.
The direction is clear: build on what works, fix what doesn’t, and stay consistent in pushing for systems that respond to the needs of every learner.

What happens when a child crosses a border… but their education doesn’t follow?
In Chiredzi, migration is quietly disrupting schooling, widening gaps, and pushing learners backwards.

The future of South Africa’s democracy may depend on you (aspiring journalism students) asking difficulty questions… @wicks_jeff

Wise words from @wicks_jeff at the @Rhodes_JMS academic assembly:
- Journalism is a buttress against anarchy. It creates an anchor for accountability.
- Procurement documents can reveal an anatomy of corruption.
- Shadow states represent slow motion capture.

@policy_F @KuyendaC Earlier this week we helped facilitate an advocacy boot camp in Tanzania in collaboration with @policy_F & @KuyendaC in preparation for the International Quality Education Conference #IQEC2025 taking place later this week. Thanks @lilylorraine56 @gondo_rachel

Closing Africa’s education financing gap demands strong advocacy grounded in localised data, participatory research, and a collective commitment to transparency. The Kuyenda Collective Transnational Advocacy Bootcamp on Education Financing, taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 22–23 September 2025, empowers youth to hold governments accountable for delivering quality, equitable education for all.
The bootcamp focuses on:
Building a shared understanding of the political economy of education financing in Africa, including taxes, public budgets, and accountability systems.
Equipping youth with practical tools to engage in education sector planning and budgeting, from the local to the national level.
Enhancing the ability of youth to link evidence to advocacy, using their lived experiences and collected data to drive meaningful reform.
Framing shared advocacy messages and objectives for the Kuyenda Collective side event at IQEC 2025 and broader regional engagement.
Through this initiative, rural youth, often excluded from policy spaces, are empowered to actively participate in decision-making, ensuring their voices shape a more equitable and sustainable education system across partner countries.
