Matt, Great job with the story. I saw it on Apple News this morning and was very interested in coach Franklin's motivations for letting Penn State off the hook for an incredible amount of money. I found his response about being wanted somewhere like Virginia Tech very powerful. Yes, money is important. We don't work for free. Your reporting tells us a lot about coach Franklin's values, character, and integrity which are all very admirable. However, even after agent fees and all other unknown fees that subtract from the final VT contract numbers, it's more money than most people with heart and integrity will ever need for their entire lives. Coach Franklin shows self awareness about what is important to him. While VT has been down lately, coach Franklin recognizes this is a place that he can build a program and win. One of the more fascinating parts of your article that I was not aware of is how coach Franklin convinced coach Brent Pry to join his staff back at VT and got VT's athletic director to agree to it after having just recently fired coach Pry. That showed guts and courage by all three men and Matt you captured this dynamic with precision in your article. Thank you for an excellent article. I really enjoyed the read and the story behind all these decisions. As a Clemson fan, I'll be interested in observing VT's growth and progression of the program in the coming years.
