Symbols aren’t empty. I’m tired of Catholics and Orthodox using the strawman that Protestants have a “low” or “empty” view of the sacraments simply because we believe they are symbolic signs pointing toward the truth of the gospel. In regard to the Eucharist, Tertullian wrote: “‘This is My body,’ that is, the symbol of My body. There could not have been a symbol, however, unless there was first a true body. An empty thing or phantom is incapable of a symbol.” (Against Marcion 4.40) Symbols are not empty. A symbol, by definition, points beyond itself to a real and greater reality. You are bearing false witness against your Protestant brothers when you claim that we believe the symbols are empty.

If you are a Protestant, evangelical, Baptist etc and you come to Orthodoxy you have to realize it will take you years to undo all the damage of those bad theologies. It will take so much time to soak you in the true faith so you become thoroughly Orthodox and most of what you think you know is absolutely wrong. The way you approach the faith in your intellect is damaging. Take time. Learn in meekness. Really understand the fathers and faith. Don’t Protestantize the church. We are not eastern rite Protestantism or evangelicalism.

A few takeaways I got from just catching the tail end of the stream 1. The Orthodox are not as monolithic as they claim. 2. The Orthodox disagree on many things, even major things. 3. The Orthodox don't even consider each other Orthodox depending on the disagreement. 4. If the Orthodox disagree with other Orthodox on enough things they call them Schizmatic and no longer consider them Orthodox to create the illusion that they don't have denominations like Protestants. 5. The OrthoBros don't actually know Protestant beliefs as well as they've been claiming all over X for the last week because they thought we believed that baby's are tormented and going to hell 😂 6. OrthoBros will always try to run back to the "who gave you your Bible" trope instead of dealing with the criticism being made. Lastly 7. I saw enough to strengthen my reason for remaining a Protestant and going straight to the infallible authoritative source of Scripture and speaking directly to Jesus. No speaking to dead saints for me. No needing anyone to interpret anything for me. I can think for myself and judge based on what was already written and sealed. Notice how all these EO’s are crashing out over the simple promotion of an upcoming conference. My boy Eli @EliAyal17454205 has been called every derogatory term in the book since posting his upcoming conference. Many of the EO community can’t control their emotions and behave in a respectful manner. This not only shows the heart of many of these guys, that there is nothing but dead fruit, but also shows that they can’t take criticism. Many of these “Ortho-Bros” think they can say whatever they want about Protestants, but when we push back they, the Ortho-Bros, get butt hurt and offended, as if they are above criticism.

It's weird how they think the Bible is so hopelessly unclear and so thoroughly confusing that it can't be understood without a church telling you what it means. Why is the church so clear but the Bible so unclear?
