@TwoPuttTommy Does the DFL have a serious candidate for the 1st? Incumbency has perks but the right challenger could do it.

@PWiniecki Finstad is on the Ag Committee, which hasn't done jack (stuff) - no #FarmBill, planting corn & soybeans looks to be a losing proposition. He might be taken out too. More damning on him? Chair of the Foreign Ag Subcommittee. He's got nothing to show the voters for that.

PBS provides life-saving emergency alerts, critical early education programming and trusted news to millions of Americans. After the Trump Administration and Republicans axed federal funding for public media, I met with Twin Cities PBS to discuss how we can ensure Minnesota’s public broadcasting services can continue delivering for our state.

@DSchrantz @DavidAstinWalsh Private sector unions have a case; not a good one, but it’s entertaining. Public sector unions should be abolished. It’s not the steel mills of the black and white era. And your teacher friends haven’t helped your fuckin phoney cause.

Protests are one part of a whole palette of on-ramps for people. They are insufficient and necessary. Labor organizing, strikes, direct action, local political grassroots organizing all important. But the big protests are an opportunity to show the scale and garner “attention” in ways the local and maybe more potent strategies don’t get attention. We need it all!

Yesterday, we pushed to advance bills to protect Minnesotans. Every Democrat voted in favor of moving these bills forward, and every Republican voted against them. Now the public knows whether their representative stands with kids or with ICE and the gun lobby.

I'm running for Congress because for way too long, working families like yours & mine have been left behind. I know what it's like to work two jobs just to make ends meet. That's how hard I'll fight for YOU in Washington. Join us: secure.actblue.com/donate/kb-twit…

@FordTygerson @CheyCab Tom Sieben and his buddies are ambulance chasers. Hand you their card after you get out of surgery and wanting 45% of your lawsuit gains. Siebens are just lazy MN bitches. Tom Sieben in Dellwood refuses to clean up dog shit in his own yard.

@NortonMpls I’m all for those types of things. But what bothers a lot of taxpayers, and that’s a term that needs a little more attention in Minneapolis the “payer” part, is that there is very little return on a rather high per-pupil expenditure. Functionally illiterate and unemployable

@PWiniecki In a lot of cases parents are working multiple jobs and/or long hours to make ends meet, if we had more after school support (tutoring, sports, arts, etc.) that helps everyone. Supporting kids has the positive externality of allowing people to work more and helps the economy.

People can’t wrap their head around me liking where I live so much that I defend it for free. The only payment I’ve ever received for tweeting about Minneapolis is the joy I get from watching conservative tough guys who don’t live here spiral in the replies. 🫶
Peter Winiecki@PWiniecki

@NortonMpls I’ve read these posts for some time. While I admire @NortonMpls for doing it, I have to ask why? What’s the payoff? We have awesome schools? We have such a music or sports pedigree? Or is it: “I’m a Democrat in Minneapolis and a bike lane for you too” CA + VT = MN

@NortonMpls This too — I agree. But then don’t a lot of folks have to drop the animosity towards law enforcement? Youth programs also suggest a parent involved. I’m not persuaded that there’s a lot of parental involvement at all.

@PWiniecki More youth programming (through the parks system and schools, not something new). Lots of the petty crime is kids that we could offer more support to and everyone is better off because the community has less crime and residents have a better future.

@NortonMpls I agree. But on to the cultural stuff. Assimilation isn’t really a thing in Minneapolis nowadays. This country is divided on a myriad of issues. From my perspective; there are a number of groups in Mpls Somali/White liberals/those who might eat lunch there at a business meeting

@PWiniecki We need to acknowledge that there will never be daily officer worker traffic like there was pre remote/hybrid work and not throw good money after bad trying to prop up downtown. More resources for public safety like mental health responders, housing assistance, rehab, etc.

@StarTribune Color it anyway you want. Get every Democrat to legislate it. Put it in laws, throw gobs of money at it and call it ? An education? You have a subculture in MN that simply doesn’t care about anything. More affirmative action hires? Fuck yeah! What could happen?

@NortonMpls Copy. So what would you do, what couple of things would help Mpls to kick out of this slump? Bear in mind that Target paid $110 M just to get out of a lease. Long term, economic growth, not relying on 1-time hits like superbowls or SummerSlam

@PWiniecki The commercial real estate issues now are about demand. Companies need a fraction of the space because workers come in a fraction of the time. That means commercial districts now need a fraction of the coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Lots of empty spaces during the correction.

@NortonMpls Other than commercial real estate pricing themselves out of the market, which was a problem in the early 2003 and on? What do you say accounts for this dramatic of a change? Again, I’m a conservative guy, but it’s more than D vs. R How did this happen?

@PWiniecki It seems like most of the issues in Minneapolis are similar to a lot of major American cities where central business districts that used to have a couple hundred thousand office workers buying lunch and coffee and happy hour daily. Now there’s a fraction of that.

Everyone, regardless of identity, should live free from discrimination and oppression. Unfortunately, Republicans, the Trump administration, and even some Democrats have dedicated endless time, money, and precious resources towards harming our LGBTQIA2S+ friends and loved ones. When elected, I will work tirelessly toward a more just and safe country for the entire queer community. To start building that better future, here is my LGBTQIA2S+ Bill of Rights: ✅ Pass the Equality Act (119th Congress: H.R. 15; S. 1503), which amends the Civil Rights Act, among other laws, to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex in employment, housing, public accommodations, public education, medical care, criminal justice system, credit, and federal funding, federal employment, jury service, and social services. 🏛️💒 Protect Obergefell V. Hodges, and ensure everyone has the right to marry. 🚫Ban conversion therapy at the federal level. 🏛️🏳️‍⚧️Overturn U.S. vs Shilling, the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the military to ban transgender people from serving. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈Restore LGBTQIA2S+ history to national monuments, military bases, government facilities, and federal websites. 👪 Protect legal recognition of parentage, expand access to IVF and fertility options, and protect LGBTQIA2S+ individuals’ rights to adoption and foster children. ✈️🏳️‍⚧️ Issue passports that have YOUR preferred gender marker, not the gender marker the federal government wants you to have. 💵Reinstate funding for social service programs, nonprofits, and research that seek to uplift and support the LGBTQIA2S+ community. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈Protect and advocate for LGBTQIA2S+ youth. Including overturning Supreme Court decisions that allow for discrimination in schools, and reinstating critical federal protections for LGBTQIA2S+ youth in foster care. 🩺Expand nondiscriminatory access to medical care, visitation, and care homes for HIV/AIDS positive patients.
