Today we're announcing Base Energy, a new electricity plan open to any Texan that can choose their provider, battery or not.
Most Texans say they’re happy with their electricity provider. Our data shows 7 in 10 are overpaying and can save with our new plan. Personal news update! … I’m joining the venture platform at LGT Capital Partners.
It’s been nearly 15 years since I joined @NinoMarakovic at @SapphireVC to help build @SapphirePrtnrs - and hard to believe our working relationship started another 15 years before that at Morgan Stanley waayyy back in 1994.
Since that time, it’s been the privilege of a lifetime to work alongside him, and to help build what Sapphire Partners has become.
I’m incredibly proud of the team, the relationships, and the managers we’ve had the chance to partner with along the way. That’s always been the most meaningful part.
I’m lucky to be making this move alongside @LauraLPThompson , @natewcl , Dan Clayton, Vittorio Reynoso-Avila, and Anna Jacoby.
This wasn’t an easy decision, but over time it became clear this was the right step—for our team, for Sapphire, for LGT, and for the managers we support.
The opportunity came together naturally through our long relationship with @TKtwitster and the LGT team. I’ve known Thomas for over a decade and have always respected his thoughtful approach to venture.
At a high level, this is about alignment and continuing to build—just at greater scale. We’re not changing what we do, just expanding where and how we do it.
What made Sapphire so special to me, though, was always the people—the ones who made the work meaningful every day.
While I won’t be in the same place day to day, this isn’t a goodbye—just a different way of working together.

Today, we are unveiling @hyperion__cap, an investment firm built to be the best strategy partner for deeptech founders. Again and again, we heard from these founders that venture capital has been failing them, even as more deeptech funds entered the market in recent years. Too many deeptech VCs lack a real command of industry history, hardware unit economics, go-to-market, and engineering nuance. Instead of rigorously evaluating complex frontier technologies, they often pass with vague references to “science risk." They overlook exceptional founders outside usual elite networks and concentrate capital based on pedigree, reducing their thinking to hand-wavy “founder bets." These VCs then prioritize promotion and social media over delivering real value to founders. In this world, LPs are also losing. And more of them continue to be disappointed by the lack of rigor that their deeptech GPs bring to evaluating these startups. We raised $35 million for Hyperion's Fund I to change this paradigm. On average, we complete 100+ pages of deep research and strategy ideas that are shared with our founders. We also share this industry research with our LP base, which has already helped support our founders with additional capital and valuable introductions. We hold regular strategy sessions with our founders and obtain key connections that unlock new growth vectors for their businesses. Over the last 6 months, we’ve already invested $9 million behind founders across 7 companies: @FarisSbahi at Normal Computing, @isaiah_p_taylor @ Valar Atomics, Will Wilson @AntithesisHQ , @drauwsy @ Kunin, @abeirami & @aparandehgheibi @ [stealth], Charlie Cheng @ TC Lab, and Mike & Josh @ F-ADA. @packyM You do notice though that when Dario is on the TL, most of the discourse directed at him is personal (he's EA, he's goofy, etc. etc.)? While Anthropic company comms is pretty disciplined and stays on narrative.

If I’m Anthropic, I’m locking Dario in a room for like a month and not letting him near the internet, a camera, or a microphone. Just let OpenAI look weird by themselves for a while.
Probably, though, he’ll pen a NYT editorial warning that AI will steal your girl.
