@Slyone1069 @donadonie1 There could be a tricky away game in 2B or R3. A bit like winning the group stage in recent years, winning in Round 2A will give the week off before the quarter finals. Mayo and Dublin had a good battle a few years back for the group win. 2A will be the same.

@donadonie1 No and round 3 as well- I am amazed at how people are clueless about the new format - it will be some fun when the reality strikes

The more I think about the more the new SFC format doesn’t make sense - Kerry can lose to both Cork and Donegal - let their injured players heal and look forward to a potential home draw in round 2 and 3

@gaelicgamestats Irish sprinters qualified through a repechage round. 2B is essentially a repechage round. Not overly complicated. Counties in the Christy Ring Cup from 2009 to 2017 are also very familiar with the format 🏑

Are the All Ireland SFC draws really that complicated? A number of counties have been using this format for years now, as has the Sigerson Cup. Why was Joanne making such a big deal out of it?

@WestKerrylad Agreed. Secondly, those who missed out on the finals arguably should be going through some sort of playoff hurdle. Not many would have fancied taking on Down in a knockout playoff.

Im a huge advocate for our games but sometimes we really show how amateur we are. The GAA should have 2 brilliant provincial finals next weekend instead they undermine them with a ridiculous draw for games in 3 weeks. Crazy stuff. #GAA #Kerrygaa

@Slyone1069 Fantastic win! Fully deserved! Looked the most likely to score until a bad sending off by the ref. Defended brilliantly then with 10 men! 💪

Really poor from @GAAPlusOfficial. Build it up all week as a 1.00pm live draw, then delay it for a studio segment nobody asked for. If you’re promoting a live draw at a specific time, start the draw at that time. Feels like a serious misread of what people actually tuned in for.

@EwanMacKenna Your crowd will be back. Deservedly in the All Ireland for winning the Tailteann. Westmeath have been due a good run. They narrowly missed out on some good results in the All Ireland group stages a few years back.

I'm actually weirdly glad it's Westmeath in a Leinster final. Two reasons. One, they deserve and wanted it. Two, they might win it. Kildare wouldn't if they'd fallen into the final. Not one single player on that side will ever see an intercounty medal beyond Tailteann. Don't want it enough. Weren't even fit enough to match Westmeath which is the ultimate reflection of work and want. If they were a cat they'd be licking themselves on the bus home. That was utterly pathetic in every way. Including on the line. But we will get some bland shite about learnings.

@buff_egan Completed before the All Ireland Intercounty Junior Championship I suppose, which has final pencilled in for mid July. Kerry hurling championship window then is after Ring Cup to the first weekend of August.

@PaulAll80945765 @Jhiggins3 The only seeding currently for the Sam Maguire is 8 finalists to be drawn against 8 league qualifiers in Round 1. Adding a small subclause to keep unbeaten provincial winners apart in Round 2A would keep unbeaten sides apart until the semi finals. Should be considered IMHO.

@PadraigKY @Jhiggins3 That's right. Works for 8 team competitions, then mathematically it's inevitable for it to work in a 16 team competition. I'd say for the Sam Maguire Cup that rule will be enforced, the Tailteann Cup will be straight open Draw.

@PaulAll80945765 @Jhiggins3 The original of the species was the Christy Ring Cup from 2009 to 2017 using the double elimination round 2A/2B format. The All Ireland replication of this format should have a stipulation that provincial winners cannot draw each other in Round 2A.

@Jhiggins3 It is called the "Sigerson" format.. basically the same format used for the All Ireland Higher Education Senior Football Championship aka the Sigerson Cup. That format has stood the test of time for that competition, by right it should be a success for the Sam Maguire

@bassasmith @AnalysisKings @CahairOKane1 Maybe they should bring a motion to Congress! Some teams are a bit too secure with All Ireland qualification in the bag pre-championship. Some form of knockout playoff for those 7 or 8 league places would inject a bit of jeopardy.

@AnalysisKings @CahairOKane1 Maybe they should make sure that they win their respective games and they'll be in Sam.. it's their own fault that they're in this predicament.. both teams were in Div 2 and got demoted... crypto harder...

Just to be explicitly clear and remove any of the confusion that appears to be lingering around who needs to do what between Down, Westmeath and Cavan in terms of Sam Maguire / Tailteann Cup.

@charliemurrin @JohnFogartyIrl Agreed. Nothing new at all. Was always going to be named teams when winning or losing finals had no impact on Round 1. Round 2A should have a stipulation that provincial winners cannot draw each other, which would mean unbeaten provincial winners not clashing until semi finals.

Updated piece: provincial finals will have no bearing on who plays who in Round 1 of Sam Maguire Cup. For example, Cork will be drawn as Cork v a league qualifier/Kildare on Monday, not as Munster winner or loser. #GAA irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid…

@SportsOpin1 @SmallerFishGAA The qualifiers shouldn't have been axed. It only takes 2 knockout rounds for the 24 missing out on finals to qualify for the 7 or 8 remaining places in the All Ireland championship. Tough on counties to miss out based on results in the early spring on heavier ground.

@SmallerFishGAA Lose all your games in football = 3 championship games (1 provincial + Round 1 and 2B of All Ireland series) Not get out your hurling provincial group = 4/5 games depending on your province Maybe the football championship needs to change structure again🤔😂

@CahairOKane1 Great win. Down might still need a win over Armagh to get into the All Ireland series. Cavan would be the ones to miss out. Tough on anyone to lose out because of results in other games. Nearly a case for bringing back 2 rounds of qualifiers for 7 or 8 qualifier spots.
