Brave effort from Pakistan women 💚 Despite a 2-0 defeat to top-ranked Ivory Coast, this was a performance full of grit, discipline and heart. From resolute defending to Zeeyana Jivraj’s outstanding saves, they stood tall, even with 10 players, against a side far higher in the rankings. Plenty to be proud of. Just wish we hadn’t missed those chances vs Mauritania.

A performance that filled our hearts with pride, even though we didn’t end up on the winning side. Superb performances from Kayla Siddiqi, Isra Khan and Zeeyana Jivraj against the world #72.

Karachi Kings’ decision to retire out Saad Baig deserves appreciation on multiple fronts. For one, they showed the courage to adopt a tactic that is increasingly relevant in modern day cricket but still seen as taboo in Pakistan’s cricketing culture. Credit to the young Saad Baig as well for putting the team first and not letting ego get in the way. Some may point to the fact that Karachi didn’t add many runs after his retirement but that doesn’t invalidate the decision. If a player (Abbas Afridi in this case) fails to execute a plan, it doesn’t mean the plan itself was flawed. Afridi is a decent hitter and recently won Karachi a match too, against Lahore, with his batting so there was a proper rationale behind that decision. Sport is full of strategies that don’t always come off but their occasional failure doesn’t make them wrong. The intent and thinking behind them still hold value. Full credit to Ravi Bopara, Moeen Ali, Haider Azhar and Saad Baig for challenging convention and embracing a move that could well become the norm in the years to come. Retiring out is a tactic in team’s interest and shouldn’t be seen as an insult to a batter.
