All three apps do basically the exact same things, some of them like my app does a lot more -- but the basics are the same. They all handle the same data and display it to the user. App #1, is 100% pure native, no webview at all -- yes that chart says almost 5GB of ram while it is running. That number is actually now wrong, it is over 8GB while running do to my libraries's size increasing since I made that chart a year or so ago. The 3rd app is native mixed with CEF (so it is running web view). Its memory hasn't increased very much, but it has increased some and it tends to have more cpu spikes now. But even using a webview it is still uses massively less memory and cpu than the native app. App #2, which is MY app and is Electron, I have crafted for performance and usability. Not only does it handle the 3k of my the normal assets (which all 3 programs handle), but it also handles another 17k of assets of which NEITHER of the other two apps handle. 😉 So even with all 20k in assets loaded in memory, it not only starts and is fully usable in less than a second, but it is massively better with the CPU and memory usage than either of the others. Web does not equal slow, poor development practices = slow. Yes, I do recognize had I written my app totally native it might have started in 50-100ms rather than 500ms, but I got basically free cross platform for that 400ms in cost. 🤷‍♂️

@matvelloso Ok...so why the same people that complained about Microsoft doing it, never complained about apple doing it?

Some history: Back in Windows 8/Windows Phone days, they made many decisions about app restrictions, app store rules, etc. always with the justification "But Apple does it". Turns out that just because Apple did a thing, it doesn't mean Microsoft could do it too, because Microsoft != Apple (shocking, I know). For instance, I don't remember Apple laptops overheating on people's backpacks, draining their batteries and leaving users with no power when they needed it. I'm not saying this particular decision is bad (or good), just that "Apple does it too" is a weak argument when there's precedent for users to be suspicious given the low reliability they have experienced over the years. Consider that this is the same OS that just announced that it will focus on solving the (way too many) reliability problems it has been facing for so long. Therefore, a much better argument would be "we can guarantee this won't have side effects or issues, it is fully tested and it is not going to be (yet) another feature that we will have to un-announce in a couple of years because it backfired".

Apple does this and y’all love it. sudo powermetrics --samplers cpu_power and see it yourself. Let windows cook

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj Excuses? Where did I say it shouldn't be possible? I said you were comparing apple to oranges...wow 20ms instead of 100ms, it will totally change my life. Thanks and good night...Of course you didn't take in consideration the different frameworks and UI frameworks this dialog use

Microsoft has rebuilt the Win+R Run dialog from scratch. Now featuring WinUI 3, dark mode, and ~94ms speeds, it’s the fastest version in Windows history. securityexpress.info/windows-11-new…

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj You're spinning the narrative, I did few simple questions, you didn't reply to any... you're comparing apple to oranges, the way a videogame engine draws stuff on the screen (after the whole loading time way bigger than 100ms)...

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj Why are you comparing it to a videogame? How long does a videogame need to start? Why are you not comparing it to the current run dialog or other windowed apps? You're comparing apple to oranges.

@JenMsft hi, general feedback about how bad hotmail/outlook servers have been in the last few years. In a year, I have an insane amount of junk emails that go in my Inbox. Today, an email from Windows Insider Program went to my Junk folder :( This should not be the case.
