@papavo @valigo WTF... GDB is objectively just bad to use and slow. A lot of linux people just printf() debug because its faster than dealing with the clunkiness of gdb. Funny enough the best linux debugging experience to this day is vscode unfortunately. Rad debugger will hopefully fix that.
English

In both cases, the ability to debug arbitrarily complex code is unquestionable. There are perceived flaws in each debugger. I believe the RAD debugger was to solve some of the perceived MSVS debugger issues. IMHO porting to linux is moot. It's basically porting solutions to Windows debugger to Linux. Was it Allen Webster who gave up when he faced the X11 behemoth?

@PandaSharp_ @the_yellow_fall @steskalj All i say is that it is absolutely possible to draw this box in sub 10ms on the screen for Windows. And you are just searching excuses for why it shouldn't be possible. It is possible. It doesn't matter that games have a start up times. Windows does also have a start up time.
English

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj ... it's totally different on how apps draw the UI on the screen, just tell me which app load the UI faster, starting from the current run dialog.
English

Microsoft has rebuilt the Win+R Run dialog from scratch. Now featuring WinUI 3, dark mode, and ~94ms speeds, it’s the fastest version in Windows history.

English

@PandaSharp_ @the_yellow_fall @steskalj It doesn't matter but go to 9 min 5 seconds and he shows his version of the run dialog that only takes 20ms: x.com/i/status/20514…
phil bohun@philthistweet
How long should it take for the Windows Run Dialog to start? I wrote my own version to see if I could do better. I did...
English

@PandaSharp_ @the_yellow_fall @steskalj I compare it to a video game because i expected the windows environment to be as responsive as a video game UI.
Do you believe its not possible to draw that text box in under 10ms onto the screen?
English

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj Why are you comparing it to a videogame? How long does a videogame need to start? Why are you not comparing it to the current run dialog or other windowed apps? You're comparing apple to oranges.
English

@PandaSharp_ @the_yellow_fall @steskalj 1second/10frames is roughly 94ms... thats to illustrate how slow that is when video games need only about 16ms or less to draw a whole 3D scene.
English

@basiertorg @the_yellow_fall @steskalj I don't know why you're using 10fps, and where do you get that from... but the current text box loads in ~103ms (and no on complained till today), upcoming will load in ~94m

@cmuratori Unfortunately, Blender isn't a serious tool for CGI work. And for some reason, they refuse to take it seriously while getting as buggy and unstable as maya. Its like all those open source projects somehow :(
English

Highly recommend donating to Blender. I recently used it to mock up something, so we donated $500. Autodesk would have charged $255/month for access to an onerously DRM'd equivalent that would have made me grumpy. It's only fair that Blender should get the payment instead!
Is this a 3D model?@IsThisA3DModel
Blender has taken a principled stance and is sacrificing future donations from Anthropic to reaffirms their stance that they are supportive of artists and creators This is very admirable and we encourage all of you to donate to Blender to show your support and appreciation 🫖
English

Congratulations Twitter mob. You just killed four programmer jobs at the Blender Foundation and deprived them of 1/8th of their yearly budget. But it’s ok, now you can use Blender with a good conscience. You better send them donations now. #b3d

@takeshi_no_uta @Osm0diar @cmuratori @tomwarren You have a screen with a refreshrate of 60fps and you start your average badly optimized video game. It will only run in 30fps. No lets put on the same hardware a screen with a refreshrate with 1000fps. You start the video game and the steam overlay fps counter still says 30fps
English

this is my point, as the whole thing is based around the fact that the dialog shows up after 93ms which the equivalent of 10 frames if the screen is at 60hz. If the screen was running at 120hz, it would still take the same amount of time, and take 20 frames instead.
my point is that using FPS here like @cmuratori does, causes misunderstandings.
English

@takeshi_no_uta @Osm0diar @cmuratori @tomwarren The thing has nothing to do with the refresh rate of the monitor. All Cmuratori did was 1second\10frames which is roughly 90ms. Ergo 10fps. If you bind the refresh rate of you screen to the draw time of the box element you could only update the screen 10 times a second.
English

@takeshi_no_uta @Osm0diar @cmuratori @tomwarren You are the one that makes it confusing for no reason.

Microsoft confirms Windows Run dialog is getting a modern look on Windows 11!
- Modern design: A refreshed look that matches Fluent Design and Windows 11, with dark mode support.
- Faster than before: Perf was top-of-mind when rewriting Run, and with a **94ms median time-to-show time it’s faster than ever before.
- Quick user directory access: You can now type ~\ to jump to your user directory, then keep navigating just like you would from the command line.
The modern Run dialog is slowly rolling out in current Insider builds of Windows as an opt-in feature, ensuring we are collecting your feedback.
To enable the new Run dialog, you’ll need to:
- Be on Windows Insider Experimental Channel.
- Enable to Settings -> System -> Advanced and toggle on the new experience with the “Run Dialog” option at the top of the screen.

@rogelio_ferrer @valigo Same shit. No vision in freebsd or the other BSD besites being a server OS. No own display server protocol, no own debugging tools or UI libs etc.

In reality, both X11 and Wayland are a lost cause. Real winner on Linux desktop is win32, because all games target in. I think Mesa should just standardize Wine platform GPU context and make DirectX drivers, and Wine should ship a real desktop instead of being a layer on top of Wayland/X11.
X11 had 40 years, Wayland had 20 years. I think it's time to take an L and focus on destroying Microsoft on its own playing field.

Bro, today our CEO, who’s also a UI specialist, created an extremely detailed and complex UI design and gave one of my colleagues around 2 days to develop it.
Honestly, even though my colleague is good, the design was so complex that there was no way it could’ve been finished properly within that deadline.
Then one of our seniors tried Claude Code. We didn’t expect much, but to our surprise, it developed the UI almost perfectly and completely on point in under 30 minutes.
It is genuinely over for us.
I used to be scared of frontend development because I’m not the best at it, but watching AI do something like this so fast is actually insane.
