In 1978, a study found that 39% of male high school students felt they had the right to rape a girl if she was (a) not a virgin, (b) stoned or drunk, or (c) if she let him touch her breasts. 54% of boys surveyed thought they had the right to force the issue if a girl changed her mind, or if they felt she had led them on. 43% felt entitled to rape a long-term girlfriend if she wasn’t in the mood. This poll was taken just one year after the (all-male) US Supreme Court ruled that “evolving standards of decency” made the execution of rapists unconstitutional. That year, there were 67,610 reported rapes in the US. In 2024, there were 127,527. For every 1000 reports, there were 25 convictions Don’t tell me that active prosecution paired with the death penalty wouldn’t be a deterrent. It won’t stop all rapists, but I’m willing to bet it would stop a lot of the casual ones, the men who rape their female acquaintances because they know they’ll get away with it. I want to point something else out. When the question was phrased as “he is so turned on he thinks he can’t stop,” only (only!) 39% of male respondents thought rape was an acceptable response. When the question was phrased differently, as “she gets him excited sexually,” that number jumps from 39% to 51%, even though it’s basically the same exact question. Why the difference? Simple - in the second question, his arousal is framed as being her responsibility, while in the first question the issue of responsibility is blithely ignored. (In neither question is the hypothetical male under consideration held responsible for his own thoughts and feelings, but that’s no surprise.) This is Taliban thinking: namely, the belief that women are morally responsible for anything a man does out of lust, from his nasty thoughts to actual rape. I also want to point out the way the survey phrases the question — not “is it okay to rape,” but “is it okay to hold a girl down and physically force her to have sex.” Researchers have learned that you get more honest answers if the questions are less confrontational. Nevertheless, these boys were in fact saying that there are circumstances — and quite a few of them! — in which it is okay to commit rape. The real question is “how many men and boys still think this way?” Based on the evidence, the answer is still “plenty.”

Can anyone tell me WHY this is not ILLEGAL. Okay... lets unpack...Virginia as Governor Abigail Spanberger signs HB 965 into law, joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. The measure would award the state's 13 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote—regardless of how Virginians actually vote in a presidential election. Huh?? Am I reading this right? Sooooooo even if Virginians voted Republican by a landslide.. the electoral vote of Virginia goes to Democrats ??? Isn't this why the electoral college exists?? The compact goes into effect when states cumulatively possessing a majority of the electoral votes have joined the compact. As of 4/14/26, the compact has 222 electoral votes, requiring 48 more to become effective. My head hurts...
