I seem to remember a paper suggesting a major open ocean pupping area to the North West of the Azores. Recent data suggest a more complex scenario.

Giving birth on the northern side and the pups drifting across to the US on the NEC, before coming back to Europe via the Gulf stream / NAD?

We are appalled and angered by the violence unfolding on our streets at the hands of far right groups. No one should have to live in fear of being attacked for following their daily routine, practicing their faith, or simply existing. For thousands of young people the threat of this violence is very real and cannot continue. One thing you’ll see less of in the media are the many people coming together in solidarity and supporting each other, despite feeling scared, angered and even unsafe. In darkness hope shines brightest. And a community bonded by hope will always thrive over a community bonded by hatred. The amount of people who care in this country far outweigh those who don’t. Hate will never win.

It is amazing how far a blue shark can travel. They are truly the masters of the open ocean

At the #SeafishCLG meeting this week I was asked to talk about what resilient #fisheries might look like. Here's my 'Starter for 10', followed by what we need to avoid or recover from. I look forward to your thoughts! 🐟

If anyone sees any tiny blue sharks this year in the S and west of the U.K. (lesser spotted dogfish size) could they send a picture. We are particularly interested in the underside of the pup as it will allow NOAA to age the fish & get an idea of how close the pupping occurred

Recent study suggests Mediterranean & Atlantic #bluesharks genetically distinct.🧬 With 90% population declines, Mediterranean blue sharks - listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN - risk maintaining a stable level of genetic diversity. Read more: bit.ly/3W8lMop
