John Snow, Barry Marshall, Semmelweis, Borglum, Galileo. Imagine if we judged people by the content of their character. Prefer facts over “someone’s truth.”

I watched one episode of Arrested Development and it involved a joke about people not knowing “Afternoon Delight” is a song about sex. I was confused. How was that funny? Did people not listen to the lyrics? Never watched another episode.
BlueBriefing🎬🍿@Uzonna7

Arrested Development is the funniest show ever made and if you prefer The Office or Brooklyn 99 you just have basic comedy taste. Every line is layered. Every callback is lethal. TV has never recovered. 🎬🎥 Arrested Development 🔥❤️😂

@actsmaniac The problems they were built to solve (Europe: bombed out cities post-WWII, US: highly-flammable and decrepit tenements full of European immigrants) were superseded by demography that rendered temp public housing both long-term & unfit for purpose (housing sub-normal IQ people).

people can never properly explain to me why social housing is so crucial for cities. "but what about the service workers" do you think the people living in social housing right now are working as baristas, police officers and nurses? absolutely not.

@butt_watermelon Dresden Files, Discworld, “Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn”, Chronicles of Amber… some might be more “older kids” appropriate. For younger there’s the “Castle in the Attic” series.

People that talk about national divorce or peaceful separation or red state secession do not understand: we do not intend to leave any jurisdiction in the country (local, state, federal) under the control of the Left. I don't want to settle for any kind of peaceful divorce (which isn't possible anyway). It's reconquest we need and for which we fight. And at this point, there can be no saving the country without using the federal government. The federal government simply has too much power, money, and influence to ignore. Any Right-wing talk of 1861-style secession is mostly theatrical and masturbatory because there is not serious support for such action even amongst Right-wing voters, nor is any individual state likely to succeed in such an enterprise.

A national divorce is a nice daydream: "You go be socialist over there and we’ll live like it’s 1955 over here." But that fantasy misses the key motivation of the communist. It’s not love for the proletariat- it’s hatred of the bourgeoisie. They could never accept a live-and-let-live split. They’re driven to destroy any worldview or success that contradicts their own, to the point they’d rather see the country in rubble than let their ideological adversaries thrive in peace.

I believe the United States will ultimately break up into smaller nation-states, and this will be a good thing The red flyover states will return to familial and communal living and traditional values, and the blue states will disintegrate into oblivion

@Red_Mage23 Because “Shi” is a completely different sound in Chinese romanization, & it’s both inefficient & inaccurate not to use a different letter for a different sound. As for the vowel “i”, in almost every other language but English is makes a sound closer to “ee” (except in “machine.”)

It really seems like the first response for everyone exposed to the hantavirus was to immediately travel to as many novel places as possible and open mouth kiss all of their countrymen

'Spreading his wings' philosophy is bullshit. This is something lazy parents do to get rid of their kids. Parents should get that children are a lifelong commitment and investment, not something to be disregarded after 18 years. When I was a teenager, I had a friend whose parents did this to him after college freshman year. Communication and all financial aid were cut off, saying that "it was for his own good." 2 years later, the most hardworking and brilliant person I knew, is working as a delivery guy just to make ends meet. He lived in a crappy basement in an old house belonging to a hag in the worst part of the town. This was a guy who topped in his class and voted most likely to become successful. If you want your son to have a good life, help him

So, it turns out that it was an Indian truck driver, sorry, I mean shipping technical superintendent, who took out the Baltimore bridge. Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair & 2 companies have been criminally charged for making 2 unsafe modifications that caused the ship to lose 1/
gCaptain@gCaptain

DOJ has indicted the foreign operators and technical superintendent of the M/V Dali over the 2024 collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge that killed six construction workers. Prosecutors allege unsafe vessel modifications, failed redundancies, and a cover-up tied to the blackouts that left the containership without propulsion before impact.

The datacenter/water is just insane, because most people have no idea how much water goes into everyday things that are already embedded in 21st century American life. For example, it takes 23 gallons of irrigation to produce a gallon of almond milk.

@AlexanderPayton If there’s an “or else” element to the monetary offer (as happened often during the railroad and other land booms) then it can get pretty intimidating and disturbing quickly.

Okay so she 1. Got on a cruise ship to St. Helena 2. Took the weekly 5hr flight to Johannesburg 3. Took a daylong connecting flight back to San Francisco 4. Flew to ~8hrs to Tahiti, then 1hr to Mangareva, from SF 5. Took a 2 day boat ride to Pitcairn WTF forget the virus thing
Jacqueline Sweet@JSweetLI

Radio New Zealand reports an American citizen who is a “hantavirus contact case” flew from San Francisco to Tahiti to remote Pitcairn Island on Thursday without telling anyone and has now been quarantined there after authorities became aware she arrived.

@EricRichards22 Thing is, because it’s less pervasive (still no indication of airborne transmission) contact tracing and mandatory quarantine of contacts would in fact be effective for hantavirus. Instead they’re like “well it’s their right as rich people to fly all over the planet post-cruise.”
