@Bbmorg The US maintains them for you. The degree to which Britain has ceased to be a great power just keeps getting more embarrassing.

If President Trump wants to take the Falkland Islands away from Britain, then we must reclaim the United States. Perfect way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American Independence. King Charles can announce it to Congress next week.

@BachmannRudi We find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of having concentrations and/or super-concentrations of one party or another in particular geographic areas. It makes running a federal republic messy at best.

Can conservatives from the US explain to me why the VA gerrymander (which was approved by voters) is not OK, while the one in TX and others in the South are? Please make a serious, good-faith effort. No German random posters please. PS: I think all gerrymandering is bad.

@RevLarryBeane Years of moving the Church to accommodate the culture resulted in a Church that didn’t matter the the culture. Now men entering the ministry want the Church to be the Church.

@becomelutheran I assume someone walking into a Lutheran service for the first time is coming from Big Eva Inc. or from a None background. People looking to escape from either will be poorly served by low calorie “praise” music which the drums likely signify. Seek the Mass in its timelessness.

If a person is new to Lutheranism and walks into a Lutheran church, what should cause them to NOT come back? I'll ask the inverse later today

@HansFiene Unfortunately. I’ve also been stuck in a car with a Hoosier driving. I’m convinced that it constituted Purgatory. Driving behind one is Hell itself.

@DeepVaue_Adv @WmWeedon Private Confession and Absolution were important enough at the time of the Confessions that Absolution was at times spoken of as a third Sacrament. It’s a treasure we have let fall into disuse.

Diagnostic quiz for would be-confessional Lutherans: 1. Has my congregation abolished the Mass? 2. Is the Mass celebrated among us more reverently than among the Romanists? 3. Have there been any conspicuous changes in the public ceremonies of the Mass?

@WmWeedon Question 2 is an unfortunately low bar. The Roman masses I’ve attended in my life have all seemed somewhat perfunctory. Novus Ordo masses in what has to be over a dozen parishes at this point.

@matthewdmarsden The different bodies break down into about a dozen groups. Only a few of those hold a real historically defensible position. One of those remains dedicated to a Conservative Reformation. Lutherans who remain dedicated to their confessional basis. The rest are lesser traditions.

Honest questions. Which one of the thousands of Protestant denominations is the right one? Does it matter? Can you make your case on here without mentioning Catholicism? Are they Interchangable for you?

@TexasPreacher Or, hear me out, they are attracted to traditions that aren’t borderline gnostic when it comes to our bodies. Our sight, our hearing, our touch, our taste, our smell, all gifts of God ignored by the Reformed in favor of overlong lectures in ugly buildings. Just a thought.

I've noticed young men are into RCC/EO because it's trendy, not bc it's true. They like the colors, buzz, & pomp of the thing. It's cooler than to settle for the simplicity of Christ & worshipping Him in Spirit & truth. It's vainglory that leads them, not the Spirit of God.

@VenomEnrique Not for nothing, Lutherans have always held that the Eucharist is Jesus. In time and space. On the altar and in our mouths. We just reject the use of Aristotelian categories to explain it. There have been abuses over time, but all traditions have bad apples.

@RevLarryBeane @becomelutheran @JHGoodman8404 It occurs to me that this is really an old fight. The Augsburg Interim, the Crypto-Calvinists, the Union Churches, and Contemporary Worship. “We can remain faithful and do/don’t do (insert whatever authentic rite or practice that offends folks who matter.).”

@becomelutheran @PatrickDFlesher @JHGoodman8404 CoWo Lutherans are like teenage girls shortening their skirts one inch at a time to wear down their fathers. “What if we use a piano instead of an organ” eventually gets to “what if we have a stage instead of an altar, font, and pulpit.”

Moving forward, I need to institute a rule on my posts that if you have a problem with Christians voting Democrat, you have to express it without jumping to "baby murder" or "child mutilation" rhetoric. It's lazy and unpersuasive.

@becomelutheran @JHGoodman8404 @RevLarryBeane We either worship in a recognizably Christian manner, or we don’t. That is not an indifferent thing. There is room for local variation and difference of opinion, but we need not treat all opinions as equal or valid. We stand for something or we don’t.

@JHGoodman8404 @RevLarryBeane Luther's "conservative reformation" is a large part of why I was attracted to Lutheranism. It's inherent in Lutheranism. CoWo rejects it, traditional liturgy embraces it joyfully. That is why there will always be conflict with CoWo, it violates a core Lutheran principle.
