Last week, I directed City of Ottawa staff to develop a plan to ease congestion caused by Highway 417 construction. Along with a third-party highway construction expert, Stantec, staff completed a thorough review of all available options to accelerate the work schedule. The construction timeline has been accelerated, and the work will now be completed by July 6, more than three weeks ahead of the original schedule. The contractors will work extended hours, including evenings and weekends. Some aspects of the project, including concrete curing, cannot be accelerated. Staff are also taking immediate steps to reduce traffic impacts: opening the Woodroffe bus-only westbound on-ramp to cars, adjusting traffic signals on surrounding roads, adding signage, deploying police during peak periods, and accelerating traffic calming measures in nearby neighbourhoods. I've heard some initial feedback that traffic improved on Monday. We will continue to do everything possible to reduce the impact of this disruptive project.

@BudrinoPolitics @_MarkSutcliffe Not true.... the guys building the 417 are working from home. They want a work/ life balance as well. Nice to see they are getting as much accomplished as their office counterparts

@_MarkSutcliffe So in summary... Ottawa Construction crews at this location are actually going to work like they do in every other City! Never had a seen Construction Crews working Gov't/Banking hours until I moved here. No wonder everything takes 2x longer here.

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa Funny thing is both of them are major sports. Expansion does mean success when every metric continues to go up every single year. That’s not delusional- that’s a fact. The PWHL brought in over 1.1 million people this past season and broke every attendance record multiple times.

Nothing like a Stunt Driving charge with your mother (vehicle owner) in the passenger seat; as was the case earlier today when an OPS Road Safety Unit officer observed a vehicle doing 166 in the 100km/h zone on the 417 near March Rd. Suspension, court date & impound.

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa The NHL gets a huge amount of coverage on American sports shows- as does the PWHL now. It’s attracting a lot of fans on both sides of the border. Don’t know where you’re getting “funding an 18K seat arena”- as they’re not asking for that- they’re asking to not lose 4,000 seats.

@JohnSiteman @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa So. Why did only 4000 people show up for a league final game??? The Panda game in Ottawa gets 25 000 each year. That CIS football. Maybe by your logic we should be building both Ottawa U and Carleton there own 30 000 seat Stadiums

@JohnSiteman @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa You crossed the line from optimistic to delusional. They aren't a major sport. I love the CFL...but I dont consider them a major sport either. And dont conflate expansion with success. Larry Smith when the CFL ventured into the US and it was a disaster.

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa They have your complete respect? Then why demean them in your last comment? To say that they’re never be a major sport when they’ve attracting over 1.1 million fans just this past season and are expanding to 4 major cities 50 years faster then the NHL is a bit much.

@JohnSiteman @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa They have my complete respect..absolutely. but ts not a major sport neverwillbe... Lets give it a rest. The NHL barely makes highlights on American sport shows. Hopefully, it will continue to attract fans in Canada, but let's not fund 18 k seat arena quite yet

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa None of those are attracting attendance of over 1.1 million fans in a season- the PWHL is. Maybe give it some respect rather than trying to demean it to make the argument you’re trying to make.

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa This seems like it’s continuing to echo “anti” arguments that have been proven false many times over. No- the NFL is not moving the Super Bowl. However, the PWHL’s success has placed them in the discussion alongside any of the top pro leagues in North America.

@Michael63594404 @FoodProfessor Good luck with hiring youth , better hire 3xs more than you actually need. To fill in when they can make it in with the sniffles, tummy ache, its raining, its too hot, too cold. Im too stressed or a complete no-show, usually after payday.

@JohnSiteman @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa Hey Johnny, I watched the game. Looks like they forgot to show up. Maybe they thought the game was at Lansdowne. Anyway... so now what would we do with your 18 000 seat venue now that the Charge is done ?? Maybe find that Frisbee catching dog the Renegades used every game

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa Irrelevant- they’re not playing 15 year old boys. That is the tired old point based on an era of the sport many years ago. The caliber of play is extremely strong. Maybe watch the game tonight- they’ll fill up the CTC again and have a great game for the fans like last time!

@Paul057Kelly @Brianc_56 @LeiperOttawa Not accurate at all- as you’re assuming the PWHL will not continue growing (which they’ve already done so massively in every single city and they’re adding 4 more). I could easily see a scenario where over time- it does become comparable revenue-wise to the NHL.
