Motorists in Thailand woke up to a shocking 20% hike in fuel prices Motorists in Thailand had a nightmare awakening this morning as fuel prices in the country rose as much as 20% after the goverment opted to lower the subsidy for the fuel. Diesel and petrol prices shot by 6-8 Baht/Liter starting 05:00 hrs this morning. The decision to raise the prices were announced around 23:00 hrs prompting long queues of motorists looking to fill their gas tanks to the brim before the fuel hike took effect. The new hike makes Diesel prices in Thailand equal to those in Malaysia, and could dishearten smugglers who have been blamed for the smuggling fuel into Malaysia, thus causing severe shortages across many parts of Thailand.
