The catalytic convertor is an interesting one because the later EU6 regs seem to suggest the emissions system should be compliant for 5 years/100k km (62k miles) Certainly in the US manufacturers are liable for failures up to 8yrs/ 80k miles (according to Google) Would need to read the EU regs fineprint I guess to see if manufacturers here are liable for early failures or not.

OK, so I've had a lot of questions about Chinese Car Warranties - so I am going to do a review of each manufacturer over a few weeks to see how they stack up to their claims. MG is another company that claims a 7 year warranty and their website proudly states "All models - 7 year factory warranty (from 01.09.2019)". Whilst this is true for most parts, there are some limitations. The following parts are only covered for 3 years or 45,000 miles: • Wheel Bearings. • Ball Joints. • Track Rod Ends. • Dampers & Struts. • Rubber Components. • Infotainment system. Then there are some parts covered for 3 years or 60,000 miles. • The EV Charging Door is covered for 12 months for cars registered before 01/01/25 and 3 years or 60,000 miles for cars registered after this. • Paintwork warranty is 3 years or 60,000 miles. • Catalytic Convertors is 12 months for cars registered before 01/01/25 or 3 years or 60,000 miles on or after. • Drive Belts are also only covered for 3 years or 60,000 miles. (Quite a big one as this can cause your whole engine to be kaput). Clutch: • The Clutch Components are covered for 2 years or 30,000 miles. Hire or Reward Limits: • Petrol MG's used for Hire or Reward are covered for 12 months or 20,000 miles. • EV & Hybrid MG's used for Hire or Reward are (interestingly) covered for 3 year or 60,000 miles if they're registered before 22/03/2024 or 3 years or 80,000 miles if registered on or after this date. (You also have to inform MG that you are using your car for hire or reward or your warranty could be void). Recovery: • All MG's come with 1 years AA cover and then recovery is only given if you have your car serviced at MG. Battery: • The 12v Battery is covered for 12 months with a max claim of £150. • The EV battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles upto 70% of its capacity. Tollerance: • In order to maintain your warranty you must service the car in line with the Manufacturers recommendations and parts within 28 days or 1000 miles of it becoming due. • Obviously there are quite a few serviceable items that have lower limits too but I haven't mentioned them as I would be here all day. My thoughts: In some ways the MG offering is similar to Jaecoo/Omoda/Chery in that they advertise a 7 year warranty, but there are limitations. However, MG don't advertise the 7 year warranty quite so heavily as the above mentioned (who mention it no fewer than 5 times on their warranty page). They also don't exclude bigger ticket items like Alternators, Fuel Pumps, Oil Pumps, Starter Motors, A/C Compressor or Window Regulators from their limited 3 year cover, so in that way they are better. However the Recovery is less, unless you have it serviced at MG and in general it's quite a complicated warranty document. I still think the advertising standards authority should look at both Jaecoo and MG, as here are two companies proudly saying 7 years warranty, but frankly there are a lot of parts not covered for 7 years that a consumer could fall foul of.

Not heard any updates recently so not sure on status but they were causing issues last year. Issue,in my opinion, is that those who visit their ideas and notions on others rarely ever have to suffer any consequences of their actions. Unfortunately we see that right across society nowadays.

They are incompatible with farming and much human use in the countryside. Yes, they build dams, but wherever they damn want. They also strip bark and fell trees. The experiment in Scotland was quietly wound up, I think.
Ben Goldsmith@BenGoldsmith

Beavers are back living wild in the Lake District – which is wonderful news. But if you read the article, and especially the words of local conservationists, the fear is palpable. Power in the countryside most definitely does *not* reside with the overwhelming majority of people who will be delighted with the return of beavers. newsandstar.co.uk/news/26102505.…

@MattTheBart @CalumDouglas1 The (new) Jeep I-4 came into my mind when I saw this thread, thanks for confirming it is a similar principle of operation. I'd forgotten about the Maserati link.

@CalumDouglas1 TJI has been used in F1 for years. In serial production cars,Maserati uses TJI on the Netuno 3.0 V6 for 154 kW/L. On the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2.0L Turbo I-4 uses TJI and produces 120 kW/L on 87 RON Gasoline. Good decision by BMW

BMW have just announced that the next step for their famous inline-6 engines, is turbulent jet prechamber ignition. We will see how thankful they are when I commented that this was in fact a German invention, by F. Penzig of I.G. Farben (chief engineer of the Ludwigshalfen works) for use with high altitude spyplanes in 1941, where, with a dual fuel prechamber jet ignition RCCI system, they could turn off the spark ignition and still run the engine at over 50,000 feet altitude - where normally the very low dielectric strength of the atmosphere causes a total breakdown of the conventional high voltage ignition system. 😬 I have a very detailed paper on it available to read via the Aircraft Engine Historical Society. enginehistory.org/References/Rin…

It's #carspotting time! At first glance not much has changed here since this pic was taken 35 years ago, but actually it's all different now! What's changed? Where was the ghost slip road on the right supposed to connect to? Can you ID the cars pictured? #archives #glasgow

@Ubique2078 @MarcherReborn Fair enough, though to be honest never felt the need to look at Starmer in any real detail so tabloid stuff has sort of passed me by. Will still be interesting to learn his motives or was he put up to it?

So…. *if* the rumours are true and “he” is involved with a 21yo Ukrainian rent boy, then this has the makings of a top quality scandal. I miss the News of the World on a Sunday

With a very long sunny and dry spell now forecast, this year so far is showing quite a deficiency in rain here. Total rain for the first 3 months is 239mm against a 30-year average of 430mm.

@HagertyUK 1998 or later. As someone else noted the Mk4 Golf didn't go on sale till late 97. Would probably take the Volvo estate, if only to see how contemporary or dated it felt.

@ScotRoadArchive Pretty stumped, I'm going to hazard a guess at M8, Bishopton/Renfrew end simply because that's an Argyle plate and they've maybe came across by ferry or down by road and that's them hitting the "big road" for the 1st time?

@MarcherReborn If you look at their history they have fallen and then revived strongly often then spending long periods in power. However looking at the present party-too much middle of the road wetness- do wonder if they are revivable, or actually worth saving at all?

@IMissHitchSlaps @Lozo2469 @MarcherReborn My last bottle was £56.50 (15kg), 205Kwh is quoted energy per bottle so equiv of 27.5p/Kwh. Reference that against what you are paying for electricity and other types of energy. Last time I looked mains gas-if you have it-was still cheapest per energy unit.

If true, and I’m seeing this from several sources, stock up on oil/coal/logs/gas before the ME war drives up oil prices Granny will really be missing her Winter Fuel Allowance this year ❄️❄️❄️
