Both cyclists and driver followed the Highway Code. Both went successfully on their way. Have I missed something?

@Adespoto3 @2wheelsgoodBrum @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace I'm not defending or excusing drivers doing stupid stuff. They should be prosecuted etc. What I'm saying is they do do stupid stuff, and I personally like to limit the number of accidents I have. Other cyclists are free to take their chances. Good luck to them, literally.

@2wheelsgoodBrum @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace But they often don't. They should, and as a driver I am obsessive about checking left turns, but that's probably because I'm also a cyclist. Do what that cyclist did regularly and inevitably some accidents will result. I personally try to maximise my safety, but ymmv etc.

@Perotinus1 @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace That's good, isn't it? Being dragged round the corner by a car isn't fun. That's why the cyclist took evasive action as the driver turned. If only the driver hadn't turned, and had followed the Highway Code, there wouldn't be a problem to evade.

@2wheelsgoodBrum @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace I do make my own choices, thanks, and I choose safety. Your point was that both followed the highway code, mine is that being right doesn't protect you from accidents. It wasn't a tipper lorry, but being dragged around a corner by a car is no fun either. But indeed, you do you.

@Perotinus1 @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace You should make your own choices, Perotinus. It wasn't a tipper lorry, and we should do very different things in that scenario. Different scenarios require different action. Different cyclists make different choices.

@2wheelsgoodBrum @Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace I've been cycling in London for decades, and I would never do what this cyclist did. I know from painful experience that drivers don't always check their mirrors, and I prioritise my own safety over being in the right. Change that car for a tipper lorry and run the question again

@Mediumdave1666 @CmdrSpace Very true, Dave. That doesn't make your other claims true. (I spend every working day ensuring cyclists don't ride in ways that risk their lives).

@AngoraGoatLady @Horatioyuletide @matthewdmarsden Hotel breakfast is usually poor, irrespective of the standard of hotel. There are certainly exceptions, but hotel class doesn't seem to be a big factor. For a good breakfast you want a high rated cafe with serious standards, product source being a key component.

@Horatioyuletide @matthewdmarsden Had it at every hotel I stayed in. I was a consultant for the NHS and made 5 trips there over two years to train people on software. London twice. Kent once , Bristol once and then my own vacation in Salsbury. They all served English bacon at breakfast, along with beans.

I have never understood the Eastern and Northern European mindset of going on vacation during summer. When your city is 75 degrees and beautiful and everything is available, you go to Greece and pay $300 a day to turn yourself into a lobster. Instead of just... going in November. You know, when your city is 40 and dreary and grey with 4 hours of "sun "a day. And Greece is 75 and you get a private beach. Make it make sense.

@MoSalah How many trophies did you win with that heavy metal football? Also I feel this is kind of arrogance coming from a player that didn't perform well this season. Be humble and don't overplay your hand here. You should have waited till the end of the season.

I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on. As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.

@TedUrchin @UKLabour You are mostly right but the solution here was Burnham to clearly state, early on, that he promised to serve his term as mayor and will keep it. Starmer still needs to go, there are much better options than Burnham.

I’m not a betting man, but if I was, I’d say Makerfield will vote Reform. I think the mayoralty of Manchester will go to Reform too. Secretly, I almost hope they do. Despite the hype, Burnham is NOT some superman sent to save @UKLabour, far from it. This is going to go horribly wrong, and all because a few spineless wankers couldn’t hold the party line and panicked. I fucking despair. #StandWithStarmer #BackOffBurnham
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

@VINUK2025 @ElloydNoir @MirabelTweets1 You can walk and drink freely in the pub in Bolton. I pass through Bolton about monthly, and not a once have I ever seen anyone marching through the town, or preventing anyone from freely walking and drinking. Me: "Two ribeyes, please. Just the steaks." Waiter: "Two ribeyes for the table?" Me: "Two ribeyes for me." Waiter: [does not write this down] Me: "Both medium rare." Waiter: "Are you waiting for someone?" Me: "No." Waiter: "Right." He leaves. He returns with a more senior waiter. Senior Waiter: "Sir, I understand you'd like two ribeyes." Me: "Yes." Senior Waiter: "Together?" Me: "One after the other is fine." Senior Waiter: "And no sides." Me: "Correct." Senior Waiter: [the long pause of a man calculating whether the kitchen will refuse] Senior Waiter: "Of course, sir." They brought out the first ribeye with the energy of a hostage exchange. The second arrived twelve minutes later with no commentary at all. Acceptance, I think. They had moved through denial, bargaining, and arrived at the meat.

@VINUK2025 @ElloydNoir @MirabelTweets1 Well.. It hasn't. We aren't very far from 'no blacks, no Irish, no dogs', and Stephen Lawrence. When I was a kid racial slurs were completely normalised. As was sexism and homophobia. They are coming back, especially here, and must be fiercely opposed.

@Perotinus1 @ElloydNoir @MirabelTweets1 That has been the fundamental way of our country for a long time. What's woke about that? The biggest bigots in our country now are those who call themselves so-called woke. They have selective empathy. Having selective empathy is like having no empathy at all.
