You've worked hard, you get a 10% pay rise from £100k to £110k. You get an extra £3.8k and the State gets £7.7k. Inflation is 3%. So you end up with an extra £800, which just about covers the increase in your council tax. Why bother.

Sadly I don't think its a wake up call. The problem is that its a generational mindset, and the older generation simply doesn't care- they will retire and spend what they pulled out. And by the time the old die off, it will be too late to solve the problem through democratic means. 54% of newborns right now are natives, 61% U18 are natives, it will take another 10-15 years for the old generation to mostly be dead, its a time game, and the clock is almost out.

Early this morning I had an appointment at my GP surgery located in a small pretty neighbouring village. I had to wait 4 weeks for the appointment but the waiting area was empty. As I was walking into the surgery, two young black women speaking in a foreign language were ahead of me. They had the security code to the employees receptionist/admin area. As I sat waiting to be called in I noticed NHS leaflets on the pin board, one of an elderly black couple & another of a young indian couple. None depicting a White couple. As I left the surgery, a young Pakistani man was taking boxes of drugs into the pharmacy area. When I go to my dentist the staff are majority Pakistani or other foreign staff. When I last visited my local garden centre a couple of weeks ago, the large swanky overpriced cafeteria was filled with black foreign speaking staff. My village fish & chip shop is foreign owned, as is the local village shop. In the nearest small market town every barbers but one is foreign owned, as is almost every restaurant, cafe & takeaway. This is in rural Britain. Why have so many native owned small businesses gone out of business but the foreign owned ones survive, what's going on?

I am standing aside so that Andy Burnham can return to his home, fight to re-enter Parliament, and if elected, drive the change our country is crying out for. This has not been an easy decision. This is my family’s home, where only a few weeks ago, doctors and nurses at Wigan Infirmary saved our newborn son’s life. But we all must make choices and in recent days I found myself with a difficult one: defend the status quo or step forward and act. I have made my choice. I am in politics because politics is how you change lives for the better. My party has one last chance to do that: deliver for the people and places I represent, drive economic growth, secure our borders, reform our state and politics, and change a status quo that is not working. That is the fight. I believe Andy is the one to lead it.
