I've reached a crossroads. When I began my career, I chased success: more prestigious work, higher pay, and bigger titles.
And I was good at it, really good.
I worked my way up from a help desk role in a call center to VP of IT at a large national health care provider.
But there’s more to success than that.
With the prestigious work, more money, and bigger titles come a disproportionate level of stress, strain, and wear and tear.
And then you find yourself trapped.
As your family grows, your children get older, and demands increase, continuing on your path feels like the only option, even as you miss family moments because of another 'critical' outage.
But then one day it happens.
You stop to look around and realize the children have grown, and you have everything you need. You wonder how much the stress is affecting your health and well-being.
And you find yourself at a crossroads.
You can continue on the path you have always known, staying frozen in place or pushing for more, but how much more do you need?
Or you can make a drastic change.
This week, I decided to prioritize personal fulfillment over more prestigious work, higher pay, and bigger titles. And I already feel better.
Because sometimes, you just have to take the fucking chance.
