Frustrated by inaction on the growing danger of cars on their street, in the 1970s residents of Delft's Tuinstraat illicitly erected barriers to curb traffic. They inadvertently invented the woonerf (living street): a common space for play and socialization; especially for kids.
Kind of insane that the original proposal to build a 46.5 ft residential building on this parking lot was originally rejected for being too tall, considering the 375-foot-tall Drake Hotel is right behind this lot. Luckily after a lot of hoops they were able to get a variance.
