@CompletedStreet The NIMBYs in this dense urban neighborhood, including local developers who maintain portfolios of blighted properties, would prefer that it remains underdeveloped.

@dmtrubman Crazy that this parcel was a blighted parking lot for nearly a century. And there are many more like it.

@fifimcfae Oh wow, we're seeing a lot of renewed interest in PhilaSD in NW, but also still a good amount of private.

Austin had more daylighting at intersections in 2011 than Philly does in 2025. 😔

Good read for anybody concerned about the Chestnut Hill West line always being too close to the chopping block. Getting the station-area population up to the citywide average through more housing construction would result in a lot more ridership

This is a great report from my friends at Niskanen. Philadelphia has what could be the best regional rail system in America. It is held back by two things. Poor frequency due to expensive operating costs Lack of population density near stations. niskanencenter.org/philadelphia-r…

Sorry but I can't get past @bcgp advocating against trolleys on a street that is already completely unbikeable. We need modern infrastructure that allows light rail and cycling to safely co-exist. Even if you paved over every track on the Avenue no one would dare to bike on it.

Sometimes @StreetsPhila gets it right. When NW Philly's W. Mt. Airy Ave. was recently repaved, the existing speed humps were made permanent. The new asphalt speed humps are also much more bike-friendly!

Biking to PHL is a death-defying proposition. Philly is falling so far behind. ☹️

@civic_grit The residents are right. @PennDOTNews is overbuilding this for a future mythical traffic volume. It should be a single lane roundabout with protected bike lanes.

Roundabouts are good, and some oppose them without good reason. Still, PennDOT should also be looking at another solution to improve safety: road diets. These roads have ~13k to ~16k daily vehicles, which falls within the federal guidelines for a 4 -> 3 lane road diet.
