@soundsmadeup @tiptap_editor Tiptap does both! Client-side: AI outputs desired text -> deterministic diff handles the rest. Server-side: Server AI Toolkit gives AI tools with a specialized edit format. MCP issuing ProseMirror commands would fail, because LLMs can't do precise position math in tree structures

@tiptap_editor Why not simply adding a MCP that allows the AI that does editing the same way as humans or add internal API that the AI can leverage instead of allowing changing 'internal' structures?

@0xcoop @tiptap_editor @lexicaljs @omnidotdev Hey 👋 quick question:what do you mean by “FOSS top to bottom”? Tiptap’s core + extensions + hocuspocus are MIT. If you mean AI/Conversion/Cloud, those aren’t OSS in Lexical or anywhere else afaik. Curious what you're comparing.

@github search is powerful! you can exclude things by prefixing with - , for example here excluding bun.lock files:

@MichaelArnaldi @fontawesome It's the one thing I dislike about @tiptap - they have an open source editor, but we have to write the same extensions they have under the pro plan, just because we cannot us their cloud solution. If they could offer individual packages under a licence model, i'd be much happier.

Source available tooling doesn’t work, people want their stack to be free to use, non open source licenses are fine for products. Nobody would have used TS if it was a Microsoft product, nobody would use Effect if it was a product, nobody would use Bun if it was a product.

Just finished cleanup on the @tiptap_editor Markdown API for extensions. Most ppl only need simple syntax → @bdbchgg built utilities to make that easy. To dive deeper, you can still write fully custom tokenization. Docs are next. Then it’s release time 🙌

Quick demo of the @tiptap_editor Pages AI Awareness progress from last week, showing 𝚐𝚎𝚝𝙲𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝𝙿𝚊𝚐𝚎() and 𝚐𝚎𝚝𝙽𝚘𝚍𝚎𝚜𝙾𝚗𝙿𝚊𝚐𝚎() in action. @alexvcasillas is working on making it more stable. Let's see if we can get to a stage for an alpha release 🤞

Native Markdown support is almost ready in the Tiptap OSS core, thanks to our core maintainer @bdbchgg. It comes with smooth phasing options, and since Markdown is a common format for LLMs, this takes Tiptap another step toward becoming an AI-friendly editor framework.

@alexvcasillas is pushing @tiptap_editor Pages AI Awareness forward. New: ✅  𝚐𝚎𝚝𝙲𝚞𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝𝙿𝚊𝚐𝚎() tells exactly which page your cursor is on ✅ 𝚐𝚎𝚝𝙽𝚘𝚍𝚎𝚜𝙾𝚗𝙿𝚊𝚐𝚎(𝚗𝚞𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛) returns all Tiptap nodes for any page Will share updates + video next week.

@alexvcasillas is building an algorithm to count @tiptap_editor nodes per page. That means we can say: “AI, fix the typo on page 3” "AI, add a note under the chart on page 7” Word and Docs never gave us page awareness. We’re adding it. It’s still an POC! Will share updates.

@austin_malerba Feel free to DM me. Happy to chat if Tiptap's paid services make sense versus building it yourself :-)

@PhilipIsik True! yeah sorry i said team plan, but meant enterprise plan since we've got close to 100 engineers. Still possibly worth it, but taking a few days to hash out feasibility of a homegrown solution first!

Working this week on generic ai editing extension for tiptap. Seems so simple at first glance, but so many details go into this - derive a structured response schema from prosemirror doc so llm returns only valid nodes - make sure llm is aware of semantic meaning of all custom nodes/marks and uses them appropriately - handle partial node selections robustly - pass adequate context before and after the selected range - strictly avoid modifying content outside of the selected range - avoid passing too much context

There are a lot of Notion‑style templates out there. Ours is different! It works out of the box, so you can drop it into your app and have a fully production‑ready editor in about a minute. It’s also expandable, so it can scale with your app as it grows ✌️
Tiptap@tiptap_editor

Need a Notion-style editor in your product? We built it. Now in Tiptap Cloud: ✅ Drag-and-drop blocks ✅ Real-time collaboration ✅ Version history ✅ AI commands (rewrite, generate, autocomplete) ✅ Mobile-ready UI Use it, extend it, ship it! Live demo: template.tiptap.dev/preview/templa…

Alot of developer building editor with @tiptap_editor will at some point get tiptap pro. Tiptap played a 4d chess here, they're open-sourced, they also give you the extension capability, but they know alot of devs are lazy to read their documentation on how to build custom extensions. So when you hit a wall, you either spend hours figuring it out or just pay for Pro. Smart move.

@PhilipIsik @fayazara Hopefully the docs can be reorganized and segregated. Docs should be docs, not marketing material. Thank you for your work on tiptap - it helps a ton of users and has no-doubt shaped other libraries as well.
