Lost in the Maxx Crosby situation is the fact that the Ravens wanted to extend Lamar Jackson’s contract before the start of free agency and it didn’t happen.

Vikings are releasing DT Javon Hargrave today.

Ravens have reworked the contract of Lamar Jackson, as @AKinkhabwala also reported. Sources say the restructure with Jackson creates about $40 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season. It’s similar to what Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have done this offseason for their teams.

Basically, his cap number went down with the restructure, but will go up if an extension is reached because of a new signing bonus for the extension, so they will have to set aside some of the savings from the restructure to accommodate the increase from an extension.

Ravens have rescinded deals in the past because of issues with physicals. In 1997, Baltimore backed out of a deal with Cowboys safety Brock Marion minutes before he was going to sign a contract because the team discovered a potential problem with his left shoulder. In 2018, Baltimore voided its four-year, $29 million agreement with wide receiver Ryan Grant after he failed a physical over an ankle injury.

Just got off the phone with two GMs. Neither one buying the Ravens failed physical narrative - not by a long shot. Good luck finding agents and teams to trust you in negotiations now. It's not sitting well with the Raiders either. Coulda got further medicals on Crosby way sooner

Sources: The #Ravens are signing OL John Simpson to a 3-year, $30M deal. A big-time OL returns to Baltimore.
