The Conservatives and other opponents of the carbon price/tax have effectively framed the April 1 increase as a “cost on people” If the government doesn’t change pause the increase, it will likely be seen as unresponsive and not empathetic to how people are feeling about the cost of living. You can defend the policy choice and be responsive to the context at the same time IMO.
