I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. I had a great dinner in Seoul with a group of Russian independent oil traders and Russian diplomats active in the Far East. *I'm quoting them, not my own personal opinion. Some of the agenda items on our table: 1) The Russia-Ukraine war will not end easily. Trump's election will not change everything overnight, as the situation is not so one-sided that one side will give up. To end the war immediately after taking office, as Trump has pledged, would require Ukraine to concede too many things, which the Russians don't think the Ukrainians will be able to accept. If Trump were to try to force Zelinsky to cave, a quick deal would be impossible because Putin would also demand too much from Ukraine and the U.S. The Russians don't seem to have unconditional hope in Trump. 2) Rosneft's deal with Reliance is a win for Rosneft. I've heard some of the details of the deal, and my sense is that Rosneft has too much discretionary power, and Reliance will lose out down the road. | I understand that India has a strategic goal of building a reliable supply chain, but I think they will lose out on price. 3) China and Russia still have a delicate relationship. They've had a history of sometimes antagonizing and sometimes fraternizing over the past few decades, but that doesn't seem to have changed post-2022. They work together for their own incentives, but it doesn't seem to be perceived by the Russians as the absolute alliance that people think it is - economic partners, but not as strong blood brothers. 4) Russian oil flows. Asian buyers still have no hesitation in choosing Russian crude when it's affordable, and that's not likely to change much in 2025, but Russian traders are paying attention to Trump's Iran sanctions. They are worried about a reduction in the availability of the dark fleet, which is not under Russian jurisdiction. 5) North Korea. I haven't talked much about this because it's the only sensitive topic between us, but the Russians don't seem to consider North Korea an equal partner. 6) Winning in the end. None of the Russians ever doubted that they would eventually win against Ukraine. While they acknowledge some of the problems their country is facing, they say they will win in the end. They believe that the United States and the European Union will not be able to give Ukraine unlimited support for years to come. 7) There will be no collapse of the oil market. I asked: “Be honest with me. Russian export economy is still heavily dependent on energy, and you guys are at war. Wouldn't a collapse in oil prices be a big blow to you as well, and do you think the Kremlin would act aggressively if that were a possibility?” He replied: “There is no way the Kremlin would allow oil prices to collapse. Their interests are aligned with the Saudis in that regard.” #oott #russia
