You cannot hear much through the glass at MetLife Stadium in the press box but you could very much hear significant boos and whistles when U.S. president Donald Trump walked out alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Tuchel should be sacked right now. Before the game even finishes. For such mismanagement. Wow! Unbelievably disappointing.

Christopher Nolan on AI: “I’ve never seen a more rapid wholesale dismissal of a supposedly foundational jump in technology in my lifetime. So much energy has been expended on bringing in AI, but if you look at that generation’s reaction, they’re utterly rejecting it. [My children’s] judgment of AI slop has been immediate and harsh. They see it for what it is very quickly – and it’s much easier for them to identify it, because it grew out of an online world they know really well. And while that doesn’t mean that every aspect of the technology is useless or meaningless, in film-making it’s hitting at exactly the wrong time. After years of driving towards heavily virtual environments, we’re seeing a renewed interest in more tactile, more real forms of storytelling.” 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/films/2026/07/…

@draper_rob This is also backed by the fact that it happened during Argentina's 3rd goal, where Salah's foot was lightly stepped on. Technically, it was a foul, but it was not deemed a 'clear & obvious' error to cancel Argentina's goal and award Egypt the penalty.

Egypt's disallowed goal was completely against how this tournament has been refereed. You can't have a light touch where you don't give fouls for minimal contact and then rule out a goal through VAR for a very minimal hold of the shirt. #ARGEGY

Rubbish. The rules were applied, relevant checks were made and players and coaches are expected to abide by them. All teams feel hard done by with red cards, but their countries don’t interfere politically to have the rules changed, upsetting the very integrity of the system. There are now 18 rules of the game. Including the new Trump rule: the rules are what Trump says they are. Pochettino had an opportunity to reinforce the integrity of the game. He failed. Dismally.

Man, it’s hard to believe in this sport when open corruption like this is happening. You can say the red card is soft or that others should have gotten cards for similar fouls but suspending a punishment because FIFA got a call is distasteful.

BREAKING @TheAthleticFC Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium with his one-game red-card ban suspended. Extraordinary development. Story with @Dan_Sheldon_ nytimes.com/athletic/74234…

Congrats go to @EgyptNT_EN Tough fought game, and one team had to go out. Plenty of lessons from the tournament, and a fantastic new generation coming through who will carry us further than before, in coming years. That much is certain. Another wonderful football journey for the country. Expectations have risen in Australia, and the focus on success will strengthen. The country needs a plan to go further to one day be fighting for the greatest trophies in sport, and that’ll take a national plan and approach. This is the lesson @AlboMP should be taking out of the past few weeks. Australian National Teams put Australia on the global stage, they showcase our youth, our identity, our capabilities. And all of that is worth investing in. Well done the @Socceroos

2.65 - Australia's Patrick Beach prevented 2.65 goals this FIFA World Cup (2 goals conceded from 4.65 xGOT against), more than any other goalkeeper this tournament. Lifeguard.

🚨 Israeli Plan to Herd Palestinians Into Controlled “Shelters” to Begin “Within A Matter of Weeks” 🔸Israel is preparing to channel Palestinians into fenced “humanitarian shelters” in areas outside Hamas’s control, policed by a foreign force, while its military deepens its occupation of the rest of Gaza, according to the pro-Netanyahu paper Israel Hayom, which reported the plan approvingly. 🔸Under the plan, unarmed civilians would be directed to a first zone in Tel al-Sultan, near Rafah, an area Drop Site has documented Israel systematically razing. 🔸A “multinational force” - the ISF - operating under the Trump administration’s “Board of Peace” would deploy there from a newly built base, equipped to police the zones, while the Israeli military “continues to maintain and deepen its hold” beyond the Yellow Line. 🔸 The camp/base for the force “has already been built,” and the Board of Peace has “begun identifying sites” for logistics warehouses, with the groundwork underway now, and deployment in the coming weeks. 🔸The paper described the effort as a “pincer movement”: the military seizing more territory as the population is siphoned into the controlled zones, in the hope that Hamas is left “without a population, territory or resources.” 🔸Officials said the areas would receive caravans and aid, but not the concrete needed to actually rebuild Gaza. ◽️The plan matches what Drop Site has previously exposed through leaked documents: a surveilled, checkpoint-controlled “planned community” in Rafah designed to force Palestinians into what amounts to an Israeli panopticon, tracked and screened as a condition of receiving aid. 🔸An Israeli political source told the paper the military would keep up “the pace of targeted killings while remaining below the threshold of international criticism… as long as Hamas is unwilling to disarm.” 📸 The buildup is already visible: the “Board of Peace” itself posted images of tactical vehicles arriving at a logistics base on June 30, matching the article’s account of preparations underway.
