India’s emergence as a major force in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in applying technology at scale in sectors such as agriculture, offers important lessons for the world, a senior official of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) said on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit being held in the national capital. Indran Naidoo, Director of the Independent Office of Evaluation at IFAD, said India’s ability to implement large-scale development interventions makes it uniquely positioned in the evolving global AI landscape. “And I know there's been very strong evaluative growth and development in India. I have visited many times on various events, with an event last week. And the world has a lot to learn from India on the key issue of scale. So how do you massify an intervention at scale? And many countries are not dealing anywhere close to the scale of India. We will have a similar model now, and the industry is finalising the course curriculum. We will have a similar model where now we will be more ambitious and we will go to 500 universities where we will provide the AI infrastructure and the course curriculum where students can get very good training on AI opportunities and then that can become a major talent pipeline for the industry..."
