South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas told the @sydneyswans Gather Round Breakfast that he thinks it’s a terrible idea if the AFL hands an 18-team Opening Round to the northern states. “How many people are going to watch St Kilda play Freo at Engie Stadium? There’d be 15 people there,” Malinauskas said. Sydney chairman Andrew Pridham, who was on the same panel, replied: “There’s always only 15 people at Saints games!” South Australia’s view is that a northern states round would dilute Gather Round.
