⚠️Read this so you don't get scammed by a "New Holder"⚠️ On average, scammers spend ~43 days becoming your friend and building trust before attempting their first social-engineering scam. There are scammers impersonating BAYC, Pudgy, etc. as "new community members", but their whole goal is to drain your wallet. How are they doing this? They make a post pretending to purchase a new BAYC or Pudgy to gain "Mutual Followers", seem more legitimate, and ask to be added to "holders only" X chats. OR They purchase cheaper assets, like MAYC or Lil Pudgy, to seem even more legitimate because they can afford the investment to scam. How do I identify the scammers? - Their account is mostly RTs, plus a few posts, with the most recent being about them "joining the community". - The only posts they make are attempts to get recognition from the community they are targeting, such as "Follow for Follow". - Sadly, mutual followers are no longer a good way to judge credibility, but having no mutuals is still a big red flag. - Check the blockchain. Find the actual PFP they claim to own and see whether it was really purchased. 9/10 times it has not moved in months. This is what @WelcomeApes does an excellent job of doing to protect the community through due diligence. Scammers typically try to social engineer you in 3 ways: 1.) They DM you saying they like your Ape or Penguin and ask if you are interested in trading + ETH. Do not ever do this. There are no trading websites, and OpenSea is currently the only trusted platform. 2.) They use a group of 5 X accounts they control, put them into a group, and claim they are all minting a "Hype" project. This creates the illusion that multiple community members are excited, but it is 1 scammer with 5 fake accounts. 3.) They create a sob story to manipulate your emotions, then ask you to donate, lend money, or otherwise send them funds. All of this typically results in them rugging the scam project or draining your wallet!! What's the easiest way to check if someone is a scammer? Beyond the checks above, the easiest way is to do exactly what the video on this post shows. Go to the profile and click their join date. This shows where the profile is located and when it got verified. If the account is from pre-2020 but only recently got verified, that is a red flag. Most importantly, it shows how many times the account has changed its handle. Most scammers have more than 3 name changes in a month. That alone should put your guard up immediately, and you should distance yourself from the scammer. Not sure? Message me. I am always happy to help. We have to protect this community and keep scammers out. Stay Safe and Stay Vigilant

I totally understand why some people will doubt @Octo0x claims of hand drawn 1444 1/1s because that takes a lot of effort. 40 days in fact according to him. Something you don't see often in this rocky times. Collectors like me has run @PenguishETH art under AI modules to see if they are generated or AI... but no red flags there.. And watching the LIVE last night i finally understood why Octo was busy the week he spent drawing the 80 Scary Penguish airdrops.. the shading n details there were another level if you zoomed in.. Now that people's concerns are addressed.. let the collecting begin.. penguish.

Hey Web3, please listen I know I’m new here. I know my voice probably doesn’t carry much weight in this space yet. But I’m gonna say it anyway. Stop minting fucking garbage!!!! This past week has been insane. Daily launches everywhere. Every wannabe founder and dev suddenly “found” some old collection on an old hard drive, or magically has the next big thing ready to go. In reality, half of this shit looks like they paid some broke dude on Fiverr to throw together a lazy collection overnight. And we just keep eating it up like it's mom's spaghetti. 20 cents here. A dollar there. Then we watch these things get flipped for 50 cents like it was inevitable from the start. Worthless AI garbage? Check. Worthless stick figures? Check. Dormant X accounts waking up after their fifth name change just to drop another cash grab? Check. At this point, we’re not building culture. We’re just feeding entire villages off bad JPEGs. Maybe it’s time to focus harder on the real builders. On real communities. On projects that actually have growth, vision, and a future. Because right now, this space is already struggling and by hyping up bullshit degenerate cash grabs, we’re doing more harm than good. Let’s be honest: there aren’t that many real NFT collectors and traders left. The space is thinner than people want to admit. And still we keep rewarding royalty farmers for dropping something that probably cost them 5 dollars and a dream of a quick exit. We need to get our heads out of our asses and support the ones who actually deserve it. The builders from before, the communities that have been grinding for years to get established. Some of them are struggling right now! And yeah I'm the first one to admit, not everything that came out of this meta has been trash. Some real gems came out of it. Some actual legends. @PenguishETH , for example, brought genuine high-effort art. @freaksone1 was cryptic, but they’re legitimately building a cool game. @num1crush showed that AI can be art when the right artist is behind it. But those are the exceptions. That’s finding a needle in a haystack. We can do better than this. We should do better than this. Because we deserve better. And Web3 deserves better. Signed, A newbie with a big heart for real NFTs and real communities.
