Fixing the home affordability crisis won't be easy but I have some ideas. Do you know why a home that used to cost $100K in the 90's now cost $400K? Because the government increased in size, increased taxes, increased regulations, and increased demand. Look at the jump in 2020 when Biden let in 20-30 million people. We need to decrease all these things. I think it's time for the government to open up some federal lands and sell 1.5 and 5 acre lots at a reduced price to WA residents. If we restored our timber industry in WA we could drop the cost of lumber that we get from Canada by almost 50%. If we repealed the GMA and reduced the regulation for building on these new lots and worked with builders to provide tax breaks we could provide affordable custom homes on acreage for families in Washington. WA is projected to have a significant budget shortfall in the BILLIONS, AFTER Gov. Bob Ferguson and the far left passed budgets with the largest tax increases in state history back-to-back, cut $782 MILLION out of Medicaid, and went on a reckless spending spree since 2025 (SB 5998 & SB 5167). It didn't have to be this way! We repeatedly proved that it was possible to have a budget with no new taxes, no tax increases, and no service cuts in our $ave WA Budget (SB 5810). It is a common sense, working-class budget. The far left majority refused to have a vote on our budget, then voted it down TWICE when we forced votes on it in rare parliamentary maneuvers. Instead, Gov. Bob Ferguson and special interests in the majority went for higher taxes, unnecessary cuts, and reckless spending. The WA state auditor got into a heated argument with a journalist during an interview after refusing to take any sort of interest in flagged daycare fraud. From unDivided's Brandi Kruse: "Anybody should be able to watch that exchange and have some very serious concerns about whether the auditor's office even cares."
