Because the entire concept of the “marketplace of ideas” implies speakers are testing their ideas against one another, not cowered in a protected corner of the internet just repeating the same unchallenged points over and over and over again.
Without any of these ideas making contact with each other, we no longer have a marketplace of ideas, we have a bunch of people sitting in their own corners preaching to their respective choirs, and one of the biggest purposes of “free speech” is completely dead.
