The way to break the cycle is to not engage further with it.

Instead, it becomes a tax. But you then don’t owe $3000 for an ambulance ride, or $600 for a single bandaid from the ER.

People want universal healthcare, as it exists in nearly every other major developed country like Canada, or the UK. It’s not literally free, it’s paid for with taxes! The US system is an outlier!

Just a follow up to give an example of “fair” vs “kind”. My friends on the left want free healthcare. Free healthcare would be kind, but it wouldn’t be fair. Why? Because doctors should be paid. They spent SO much money on school and so much time and effort to become doctors only to work their trade for free? Oh but college should be free! So now we’re enslaving teachers? Oh but the government should pay for it all! How does the government make money? Oh that’s right, it takes it from all of you! How is any of this “fair”? Making anything a right when it depends on someone else doing the work is called servitude. Creating slaves out of farmers, teachers, doctors, landlords etc isn’t fair. Free everything would be nice, and may look “kind” on the surface but just a little scratch at that surface reveals that it really isn’t kind nor fair.
