The Cardano Midnight glacier drop for $NIGHT continues another 17 days, then on to the Scavenger Mine. What is the scavenger mine? The Scavenger Mine is the second phase of the NIGHT token distribution for the Midnight blockchain, as outlined in the provided whitepaper. In simple terms, it’s a process where anyone can participate to claim a share of the NIGHT tokens that weren’t claimed during the first phase, called the Glacier Drop. Here’s a breakdown: •Purpose: The Scavenger Mine gives a broader group of people a chance to get NIGHT tokens by helping set up and support the Midnight network. It’s designed to be inclusive and not just favor big players like mining companies. •How It Works: Participants complete computational tasks or puzzles that require computing power. These tasks are meant to be accessible to regular people, not just those with powerful computers. By solving these puzzles, participants help with the technical setup of the Midnight network. •Duration: The Scavenger Mine lasts 30 days, split into 30 one-day slots. Each day, a portion of the unclaimed tokens from the Glacier Drop is distributed to participants based on the amount of computational work they contribute. •Rewards: The unclaimed tokens from the Glacier Drop are divided up. At least 1% of the total NIGHT token supply (24 billion tokens) is guaranteed for Scavenger Mine participants. The rest goes to key network components (like the Midnight Foundation, Reserve, and Treasury) and to a third phase called Lost-and-Found. •Claiming Tokens: To participate, you solve the puzzles and provide proof of your work through the NIGHT Claim Portal. You also need to provide a Cardano address to receive your tokens. These tokens are initially locked in a smart contract and gradually become available during a redemption period, just like in the Glacier Drop. •Why It Matters: The Scavenger Mine encourages community involvement in building the Midnight network, makes the token distribution fairer, and helps ensure the network starts with a diverse group of participants. In short, the Scavenger Mine is like a public challenge where you do computational tasks to earn free NIGHT tokens, helping launch the Midnight blockchain while getting a stake in its future.
