It’s absurd to suggest that our @DOEChancellor’s job should be in jeopardy. A procurement rule was skirted in service of bringing desperately needed multilingual teachers into classrooms. Instead we should focus on DOE procurement reform. I have ideas: nydailynews.com/2026/07/18/sch…

Today we remember Nelson Mandela, a leader who opposed apartheid and became a symbol of courage, forgiveness, and hope. Mandela was South Africa's first black president. 'Madiba', as he was affectionately known, is among the great heroes of history. He was born on this day in 1918. #MandelaDay

Every week, my office hears from business owners facing eviction or unfathomable rent increases at the hands of predatory landlords. We must pass commercial rent stabilization so NYC continues to be a place where people can make their dreams happen. haitiantimes.com/2026/07/01/hai…

As your Higher Education Chair , I am proud to champion the needs of our CUNY students to make transit more affordable & accessible. This is a historic pilot program that solidifies the first step in us achieving free and universal transit for CUNY students in the years to come.
Ethan Stark-Miller@Estarkmiller

EXCLU: The City Council is matching $700k in state fundinf for a pilot program offering free OMNY cards to roughly 1,250 CUNY students across both the fall and spring semesters in the city budget. amny.com/nyc-transit/ci…

🧵: As someone who has fought for foster youth, this is heartbreaking but not surprising. When we fail to invest in children in foster youth, we fail our future. We must prioritize the resources, stability, and support they need to succeed. imprintnews.org/child-welfare-…

More than half of NYC Council members sent a letter to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the city’s district attorneys and administrative judges urging the city to investigate why a handcuffed woman was forced to give birth in a BK courtroom last month

I am heartbroken and horrified by today’s mosque shooting in San Diego and the deaths of three victims. This violence is the direct result of the normalization of Islamophobic rhetoric. Leaders who repeat that we are dangerous, invaders, violent, terrorists — the blood of these victims is on your hands. I will not stop speaking out against Islamophobia. As we approach Eid, I will also urge @NYCMayor and @NYPDnews to take extra precautions to ensure our community is safe. This violence was meant to isolate us with fear. Instead, we will stand together in solidarity.

No child in the foster system should have to switch schools or miss school because NYC has failed to provide a way to get them there. We urge @NYCMayor to invest $3M to provide interim transportation for students waiting for @NYCSchools bus service. chalkbeat.org/newyork/2026/0…

✅ The Senate just passed my bill to expand voter protections for Haitian Creole speakers and New Yorkers of Middle Eastern and North African descent. Our state's diversity is a strength, and our democracy is strongest when every voter's rights are protected. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻

Today, Chief Justice John Roberts' Supreme Court betrayed Black voters. Whether America has fundamental rights is hinged on Black folks having fair representation in the country we built. This decision has implications beyond Congress. We must continue to stand up and fight back.

The Supreme Court's decision to restrict the Voting Rights Act weakens one of our most powerful civil rights laws.   The Voting Rights Act was born on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. This decision dishonors that legacy.   I'll keep fighting to protect voting rights and our democracy.
