My heart breaks today for my daughter. When she moved out on her own, the first dog she got was a German Shepherd. He dealt with bad skin issues throughout his life, but she continued doing the best she could for years to take care of him. Today she had to put him down.

I'm sorry to have to tell you all that Gus went to dog heaven this morning. I did everything I could to buy him time to try to treat the cancer but the pain meds stopped working and it wasn't fair to him. His wonderful vet - the only person he would ever allow to clip his toenails - opened her office on a Sunday morning just for him. He was the sweetest little guy - Olympic level toy hoarder, hiking buddy extraordinaire, professional napper, hilarious goofball, and my best friend. He wasn't my dog - I was his person. I buried him in his favorite blanket with his toy hoard. I'll miss him forever. Goodbye, buddy. 💔

Drove 18 hours from home to pick up this sweet little shelter dog from St.Thomas, USVI. Apparently no one would adopt her and my family and I decided to take her in. They flew her to St. Louis and the rest is history. Welcome home pup! From sea level to a mile high, a wild ride for this pooch.
