ट्विटर खोलाे तो पता चलता है कि बेटियों से वंश चलता है ट्रेंड कर रहा है। “बेटियों से वंश चलता है” सुनने में यह वाक्य प्रगतिशील लगता है, लेकिन इसके भीतर भी वही पुराना पितृसत्तात्मक अहंकार छिपा हुआ है, जो स्त्री को मनुष्य नहीं, किसी वंश, कुल, रक्त और नाम की वाहक मानता है। सवाल यह नहीं है कि वंश बेटों से चलता है या बेटियों से। असली सवाल यह है कि आखिर किसी मनुष्य का मूल्य “वंश चलाने” से ही क्यों तय किया जाए? बेटी कोई जैविक पुल नहीं है, जिस पर चढ़कर कोई परिवार अपनी अमरता की कल्पना करे। वह अपने सपनों, श्रम, प्रेम, बुद्धि, असहमतियों, विफलताओं, अपने अभिलाषाओं, अपनी यौन आकांक्षाओं, अपने स्वप्नदर्शी संसार और स्वतंत्र जीवन के अधिकार के साथ एक पूर्ण मनुष्य है। समाज जब कहता है कि बेटियों से वंश चलता है तो वह अनजाने में उसी खेल के नियम स्वीकार कर लेता है, जिसमें सदियों से बेटों को प्राथमिकता मिली। बस खिलाड़ी बदल दिया जाता है, खेल नहीं। स्त्री को समान मानने वाली दृष्टि कहती है, हमें यह साबित करने की ज़रूरत नहीं कि बेटी भी बेटे जैसी है; हमें यह पूछना है कि बेटे को ही मापदंड किसने बना दिया? और यह क्यों ही कहा जाए कि बेटी ही बेटे जैसी है। यानी हमने कसौटी बेटे को मान रखा है। बेटी का गौरव इस बात में नहीं है कि वह पिता का नाम आगे बढ़ाएगी, परिवार की नाक रखेगी, कुल की मर्यादा बचाएगी या बुढ़ापे का सहारा बनेगी। उसका गौरव इस बात में है कि वह अपनी शर्तों पर जीवन चुनेगी, चाहे विवाह करे या न करे, संतान चाहे या न चाहे, घर संभाले या सत्ता, कविता लिखे या कंपनी चलाए, खेत जोते या अदालत में खड़ी हो। यह वह किसी मन चाहे व्यक्ति के साथ शादी करके रहे या बिना शादी के रहे, जैसा कि पुरुष बहुत धड़ल्ले से कर लेता है। वह किसी धर्म, किस जात या किस देश के व्यक्ति के साथ शादी करे। ये उसके अपने प्रश्न और ये उसकी अपनी चिंताएँ हैं। आप बेटियों से वंश चलवाते हैं इसलिए बेटियों को बुरके या घूंघट में बिठा देते हैं। उस मर्यादाओं और नाना प्रकार के डर के पहरे लगा देते हैं। बेटा किसी गंदगी में मुंह मारता फिरे, किसी भी चाल चलन में रहे, किसी के भी साथ रहे और कुछ भी करता फिरे उसकी चिंता न वंश के मामले में होती है और न मर्यादा के। इसलिए “बेटियों से वंश चलता है” कहने से आगे बढ़ना होगा। कहना होगा : बेटियां वंश चलाने के लिए नहीं जन्म लेतीं; वे जीवन को अपनी तरह से जीने, बदलने और विस्तार देने के लिए जन्म लेती हैं। वे मन चाहा पढ़ने, नाचने, गाने, वैज्ञानिक बनने, अखबार का संपादक बनने, खेत संभालने, अपना घर खरीदने से लेकर अपनी असीम मनुष्यता के विस्तार में जीने की विस्तीर्ण आकांक्षाओं का निस्सीम नभ चाहिए। और मनुष्यता तभी चलेगी, जब बेटियों को प्रतीक नहीं, स्वतंत्र नागरिक माना जाएगा। #बेटियों_से_वंश #बेटियाँ

@Jasonphilip8 She herself has been a big promoter of supplements I think. After I watched, a long line of You Tube shorts of her promoting these absurd things sprung on my home screen.

I watched the recent India Today interview with The Liver Doctor on loop. It was designed for provocation rather than meaningful scientific scrutiny. Instead of: -asking for data sources, -discussing evidence hierarchies, -separating anecdote from epidemiology, -or debating public health implications, the conversation repeatedly drifted toward personality, ragebaits ,& SM theatrics. Medical interviews work best when questioners: 1. ask precise questions, 2. allow answers to be finished, 3. try distinguish evidence from opinion, 4. & avoid turning medical debates into shouting matches for virality. Viewers deserved a deeper discussion on hepatology, alternative medicine claims, alcoholic liver disease, obesity, supplements, Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), & evidence-based medicine, not just conflict driven television. I think Dr. Abby was ambushed for TRPs. This is the reason, I turn down interview requests of late. I am suspicious of the credentials & motives of the interviewer. Opportunity wasted.

The BJP Government in India has masterfully done this. All the major central healthcare institutes now have department of "integrative medicine", which are made to beleive to be "better or upgraded" standards of care. They are not. Like what Prof. @EdzardErnst writes here. INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE is undeniably, an attempt to smuggle unproven treatments into healthcare. And this can only happen through public healthcare systems or highly promoted private corporates (eg: Apollo Hospitals, Medanta etc.) For integrative medicine departments, patients are consumers and clients and commodities. A larger business opportunity. The modern medicine community is not asking for integration. The public is not asking for integration. The patients are not asking for integration. So who benefits from integrative medicine? Pseudoscience promoters, alternative medicine practitioners and political entities that back them. Integrative medicine helps utterly useless business practices such as Ayush survive into the future. Beware.

I like Mumbai, a lot. It is my favorite city in India (Kochi, Hyderabad are 2 and 3). But not because it is a good city, it's frankly fucking shit as a place. There are plenty of flaws, some serious ones (main one being that spirit of Mumbai horseshit). But Mumbai has good, decent people. Even some of their BJP voters are tolerable. The most decent, progressive, modern city in India per capita regardless of religion, caste, gender etc. By far. It's also true that other Indian cities set the bar very, very low :)

@ambar_parmindar अच्छा!! अब समझ आया समाज की गाड़ी ऐसे क्यों चल रही है। क्योंकि धुरी ब्राह्मण हैं। यह भी पता लग जाए कि कौनसे ब्राह्मण हैं तो ठीक रहे–कान्यकुब्ज/पुष्करणा/छन्याती/सरयुपारीण आदि-आदि। दोनों पहियों में अलग-अलग किस्म की धुरियाँ हुईं तो एक पहिया ऊँचा और एक नीचा हो जाएगा।
