Manchester United… Makes you wonder. Why weren’t they in for Xabi Alonso? Michael Carrick can still succeed at the club, sure, but not in the way that Alonso could. Alonso is a perfectionist. Like Arteta. Carrick closer to Slot (except worse). More reliant on the players.

Chelsea’s best team is elite. 100%. Sanchez; Gusto, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; James, Caicedo; Estevao, Palmer, Enzo; Pedro. Alright, that’s not a very balanced team, but you get the point. Other guys are fillers for balance, yet exceptionally talented (Hato, Santos, etc)…

Give Arteta, Pep or any elite tactician Chelsea’s squad and they’d win major trophies almost instantly. Would simply need to solve the culture (what Maresca and Rosenior failed to do), and they’d win. Like Klopp did with Sakho. Arteta with Arsenal’s entire squad. Pep with Yaya.

The amount of setbacks Arteta suffered in the transfer market over the years was incredible. Pep spent €500m in his first two summer despite inheriting a title winning team. Arteta inherited mid table mediocrity, spent less & had Arsenal competing for the title in 22/23. Mad.
