@manc689908 @EtihadProbably @revolmediaz Not what I said. The PL offered a settlement before they referred it to the Independent Commission. We turned them down so they went ahead with the hearing. Same as happened with UEFA. I realise you're a bit thick but is that clear enough for you?

🧵While everyone is discussing Chelsea, here's some background on City's situation. I was chatting to a retired judge recently at a party. I asked him about the independent tribunal process, specifically whether the panel would have an open mind prior to the start of the hearing.

@AllyblueDavies @Shakacarnage @19sean65 I've put that idiot on mute but CAS was quite explicit and clear. We did not disguise equity investment as sponsorship revenue. And most of the Etihad sponsorship period wasn't time-barred and was investigated by them. So he clearly hasn't read the report, or can't read.

Legally, they have to back their opinion up with law, within the PL rules. It must hurt being wrong.
PrestwichBlue@PrestwichBlue

@Shakacarnage Not it's not. Read Rule W.52. The panel members are clearly all expected to form firm judgements by the end of hearings. Otherwise how could they decide the outcome by the end of, or as soon as practicable after, the hearing itself? Stick to video games.

@PrestwichBlue Because they were time barred. They weren't thrown out - it was beyond statute. They aren't time barred with the Premier League, and one witness has since been found to have Kier to CAS. He won't be a credible witness in this. Facts are important.

@EtihadProbably @revolmediaz Yes, I heard that. UEFA did the same, offering us a fine if we pleaded guilty to what was described to me as "a technical accounting breach". We said thanks but no thanks to that as well.

@JackNev20 It is. He is a City fan though whereas the other two are united fans.

@autographsbuyer I wish I could give you that comfort. I suspect we'll more likely be 2 down within 20 minutes! it we've put 4 past them before, so I hope the players go out thinking it's possible again.

@PrestwichBlue You’d think if it favoured the PL that they’d run down the street, cock in hand with streamers and a light show telling all and sundry

@RealTolmie @TheRealFbloke @slbsn Non-cooperation would not count as gaining a sporting advantage so no points deduction even if charge proven. But paying agents and players under the table to secure their signing over other clubs offers doesn't seem to count as that, so what does is the question?

Reading @slbsn excellent piece on Chelsea's recent 'punishment', I can't see how City would face a points deduction even on a finding of non-cooperation?

Most of this is untrue.and to clarify, panel members do not pass judgement or suggest which way they're leaning at heating completion. Any ruling must be sound within PL rules, and after delivering response to charges, only then would they schedule a sanction hearing

As I said, Rule W.52 requires a speedy outcome following a hearing under Rule W. The PL, via its independent commission, is therefore potentially in breach of its own rules. We'll only know for certain when the outcome is finally published but it might not be pretty for the PL.

It's likely the parties would have had a good idea of the outcome in December 2024, at the end of the hearing. The little I've heard, which is unverified but I trust the sources, is that the PL came out of it badly. Very badly. Draw your own conclusions from that.

I'd assume that if City were to have been found to be in breach of the rules they've been charged under, we'd have known fairly soon afterwards. So we might make the assumption that they're not guilty of any of the substantive charges. If so, then what's the hold-up?

He laughed & said "Don't be so naive. They'll have seen the evidence beforehand & have largely formed a view by the time it starts. The hearing will be used to clarify any o/s issues and, at the end, they'll have formed a firm view. They aren't still discussing it".
