The Whole Brain child is a good one thats more about cognitive development linked to behaviour. A new one thats good is also Good Insidel by Becky Kennedy and then generally I just read studies on topics of interest like the impact of hitting kids on behavioural outcomes / how to develop curiosity in kids - the Nature Reviews study (2024) is great for this. I started The Anxious Generation but I honestly haven’t finished it. But people recommend it a lot. As a Christian, I get the ideas but I find a lot of the anti-anxiety stuff can be found in the bible.

I find it so #fascinating that someone would educate themselves on how to raise a dog before getting one but just go ahead and have kids without thinking similar learning is required to the point they end up applying dog rearing methodologies to their kids.

B4 I got a dog three years ago, I read a book on how to raise one. The core idea was simple: positive reinforcement, and correction without frustration. I spent the next 14 months training that dog. I applied the same approach to my two boys, who were toddlers at the time.

@Kollerkunzultz Its fascinating to me because I did not ever see parenting as pure improvisation. Once I started my parenting journey mothers shared excellent literature and studies on raising children. I continue to study how to raise children. But its v interesting how people approach it.

When I had my first daughter, as you all know, my pelvic bone broke and I had a condition called ‘pelvic symphysis disfunction’. I couldn’t walk for 3 months and I was in excruciating pain. During this period, I started physiotherapy and it was one of the worst periods of my life. I couldn’t walk, eat, sleep or do anything. My mother in law is a retired nurse so she moved into my house. She was with me all through. My mum used to come and relieve her during the weekends. Due to the fact that the pain was mostly unbearable, my mother in law used to give me pain relief injections because I couldn’t even swallow anything because I wasn’t eating enough. My mother in law would take my daughter through the night and nurse her. For the first 3 months after delivery, I never did night duty. It was my mother in-law and my mum that used to do alternate days. She even used to bathe me when my mum wasn’t around. She will clean my CS wound for me and dress me up just like my mum would. 🥹🥹🥹🥹 There were days my mother in-law will ask me what I wanted to eat, I will say rice. She will cook it and I will burst into tears that I didn’t want any more. She will make as many things as I wanted and never complained. Even when I had the twins, she was always there with my mum to assist me. My mum is also a fantastic mother in-law to my sister in-law. She doesn’t snoop or add her mouth in conversations that she’s not called into. She knows her place. I’m lucky to have a wonderful mum and an amazing mother in law. Not all mother in-laws are terrible. I am so lucky to have her. I have a lot of stories to share about that woman 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Guys, please indulge me. ❤️ Let’s talk about good mothers-in-law for a change. I mean the ones who welcomed you like a princess the very first time you visited, and made you leave feeling like a queen. The ones who, even after settling in their family, never gave you a reason to regret marrying into their family. Let’s celebrate them today. We’ve heard enough about bad in-laws. 🥹❤️ I’ll go first. 👇🏼

My mum came home and met a box of donuts. When my dad got back, she told him she saw a box of donuts on her table and was wondering who owned it. He said he got it for her because he saw her eating it one day and reckoned she liked it 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 40 years married in July and are still totally in love with one another 🥹🥹😍😍😍

I feel like if you have a partner, certain conversations about relationships especially gender wars, you shouldn’t involve yourself in, cause why are you there? You’ve obviously found your person, what concerns you with the calamities of others, my thoughts tho
