Thrilled to share that I have been awarded The Statesman Award for Rural Journalism 2023 (second prize) for my story on Bihar’s Uterus Scam. The story investigated the unscrupulous medical mafia preying on poor women, often from Dalit communities, robbing them of their organs.

@DaniBeckman In the early stages of neurodegeneration, glial cells demonstrate a neuroprotective state with the ultimate aim of protecting the nervous system from the insult. However, in the later stages, glial cells adopt a neurotoxic nature.

What is neuroinflammation, and will we be able to learn to control it one day? The image below shows a neuron being attacked (or helped?) by glial cells. Markers: neuron/pTau-blue, microglia/iba1-gold, astrocytes/gfap-purple. What kind of help makes things worse? #neuroscience
