💯, but more solutions are needed to build the primary care system that Canadians deserve. Pharmacists are grossly under-utilized and would be an amazing resource in primary care; we have much to contribute. We need all hands on deck with everyone working to their full potential.

New med school aims to ease primary care shortage. But can it do so with doctors alone? Or should more nurse practitioners be trained too? by @bweikle cbc.ca/radio/whitecoa… via @cbcwhitecoat @NightShiftMD #NPs #MedEd

A recently published American Cancer Society study:Smoking is attributed to 56.0% of all preventable cancer cases in men, and 39.9% in women. Free quit medication 4 all smokers just makes sense. We only provide it 4 a small few, 4 a limited time, & charge a copay. @johnjhogan

The cognitive dissonance required to be a politician these days is staggering. A new med school is a meaningless placating strategy if you don’t address why new MDs aren’t choosing fam med. We need adequate compensation for all HCWs and more funding to support primary care. NOW

This is great! One of the big barriers to effective team-based care is poor understanding of the roles of different providers and patients always thinking they need to see their family MD. I die a little inside whenever a patient books a med review with their physician.🤦🏻‍♂️

It’s very on-brand for the 🇨🇦 healthcare system to be OK with paying to fix the problem after it happens, but not OK with trying to prevent it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Why must we place different chronic diseases into arbitrary levels of importance? Obesity is a chronic disease that significantly ⬆️ the risk of many negative outcomes…..including diabetes!

Long overdue. I sincerely hope that OCP continues to investigate this issue, which is damaging to the profession and detrimental to patients. Glad to see so many RPhs contributing to the discussion. If there was ever a hill we were going to die on, this is it.

The #OCPBoard expressed zero tolerance for business practices that compromise the ability of pharmacy professionals to deliver safe and effective care. Read the full statement here: bit.ly/3vtv9oh

@mkcavy @PharmacistMama I feel this so much this week. I routinely renew and adapt meds in my practice. Community colleague this week refused to fill because I’m “not allowed to do that”. How can people not even know their scope of practice? 🤦🏻‍♂️

@PharmacistMama I did a minor ailments consult for a friend and sent the Rx (and documentation related to my assessment) to a pharmacy near where they lived. The pharmacist initially refused to fill it, and told the patient that I was breaking the rules Sometimes I just can’t with our profession

Commentary on this issue is missing important details. You have issues with wasted tax dollars and corporate abuse of healthcare services, in addition to inadequate remuneration for physicians. I see and agree with all of this, as would any Canadian. cbc.ca/news/canada/on…

The community and #primarycare sector faces a $2 billion wage gap compared to hospital peers. At the 2024-25 Provincial Budget Consultations, we advocated for equitable compensation for our skilled professionals. We will continue to advocate until this is achieved.

The Ford Conservatives have no plan to tackle the most important issues facing us all. Instead of helping 2.2 million people without a family doctor or supporting overwhelmed hospitals, @fordnation is out peddling beer in convenience stores. My thoughts 👇🏼 #onpoli #onhealth
