When Scripture declares that the Church is the Body of Christ, it makes it impossible to treat the Church as something purely man made, and thereby subject to the same decay (indeed overthrow) of other man made institutions. The Church thus in some sense partakes in the divinity of Christ Himself, Who has become one Body with His Bride forever, promising that: She will never be defeated, what She binds and looses on earth shall be bound and loosed in heaven, He will be with Her until the end of the age, the Holy Spirit will guide Her into all truth, and that She is the pillar and bulwark of truth on earth. These promises were given precisely because all man-made institutions can and do break down, crumbling into dust. But the Son of God has made it clear that the institution founded by Him, the Messianic and Apostolic Kingdom of His Church, is in an entirely different category. On earth, She can and has been subject to decay in various ways—but never to the point of Her destruction, never to the point of Her overthrow. She will stand forever, not because She says so, but because Christ says so.
