@bil4l @AnnaRMatson @SecKennedy Sadly, there are studies that do show lower IQ in formula fed infants. And, perhaps you could argue that these studies have many flaws but who wants to take that risk?? And remember, there are precisely zero studies showing that formula increases IQ.

When I was a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s my uncle Charlie was gay. My mom told us he had always been that way. She said when they were little her other brothers would be outside playing and Charlie would hang out with the sisters and play Barbies. I thought he talked funny. He usually grew his nails out. But my mom told me that's just who he was. We loved Charlie. We loved his crazy, loud friends. Sometimes we'd go to Pizza Hut in our small town where he worked and visit him. He was a great storyteller. When I was around 12 or 13 Charlie got sick. I remember my mom cleaned his mobile home with bleach and Lysol because he couldn't get healthy. Eventually he passed from tuberculosis and complications from AIDS. My mom said at the end there wasn't much left of him. It was a terrible way to die. And because of the time and place he died mostly alone. People were afraid to visit him. I remember relatives asking if they should disinfect the toilet after he used it. I think about my uncle Charlie all the time. I'm glad my mom introduced us to him. I'm glad he was part of our normal lives. I'm glad my sister and I grew up knowing he was a real, loving, caring, decent person. I'm glad my mom didn't try to tell us something was wrong with him. I wish everyone had an uncle Charlie. Maybe the world wouldn't be so full of hate and bigotry. Because he was impossible to hate. When I see people shooting up Bud Light cans and screaming about storytime I wish they knew my uncle Charlie.

Orange Unified Trustee Madison Miner recently shared her proposal to segregate IEP kids into one class per grade to give GenEd a full class without any IEPs. She stated GenEd teachers told her if they wanted to teach SpecEd kids they would have gone to school for that. Ouch.

@inminivanhell @OldGypsyWoman I’m writing my dissertation on LRE. Let me know if you’d like the specific research—I have plenty that backs up this stance and refutes segregation.

@OldGypsyWoman @inminivanhell You cannot be more wrong. Every study shows that students with disabilities (SWD) AND those without disabilities have better outcomes when SWD are included. Look up the Salamanca Statement to see how far back this research goes.

@TheEugeneFields @inminivanhell I have the ability to do so & have done so. Almost 1/2 of our families do not. It takes money, time, & space that many don’t have. My kids like to peruse books. The library is closed on Sunday, so they browse the digital library. They don’t have that option next week.

@inminivanhell I'm a parent in OUSD. I suggest parents start curating physical libraries for their kids, but I'm sure that's next on the menu.

The first action taken by Orange Unified School District’s Interim Superintendent was to suspended access to Sora Digital Library to all students. This comes after a parent at the last mtg took issue with a young adult LGBTQ book on the app they felt was “inappropriate for kids.”

Over the course of last 3 weeks newly seated boards in Orange County have fired 3 female leaders. The speakers said last night, “you have no decency”. As the @OrangeUnifiedCA board took action while those affected were not even in the county. #ladieswholead

@jousting101 @d_kanti_396 @teachergoals Most people with reading difficulties struggle with phonological processing (using sounds to process language). Explicit instruction in phonemic awareness builds these skills. Look up the “visual word form area of the brain!” 😁😁😁

@ProfMeganSmith @d_kanti_396 @teachergoals I’m curious, what if you were diagnosed with low reading abilities, but you could still read it? Can your brain use other methods to read the text?

@d_kanti_396 @teachergoals Ask as many as you’d like! 💗💗Orthographic mapping is how we automatically read words by sight rather than decoding (sounding out words). This is how we read text fluently. I would say this is useful in every field! But I need to research the equivalencies for braille!

@ProfMeganSmith @teachergoals Sounds like kind of a super power.... May I ask you one more question? What are these kind of people good at? In what field of studies or field of work will this ability be helpful?

@d_kanti_396 @teachergoals When your brain has connected the sounds, spelling, and meaning of a word so that you can read it fluently regardless of font, orientation, color, size, etc.
